No, but we have our share of "oddities." The liberals are up in arms over the Minutemen, but the idea seems to be working well enough that a few other border states are considering the idea. Northern border states as well.

Trust me, Arizona ain't half as weird as NM.

The last time we lived there (1997) Elvis_TCB (the Mr.) was harrassed in a bar by the typical New Mexican xenophobe who imformed hubby that "we kicked your asses at the Alamo" and told him to "go back to Texas." They hate everyone from other states ESPECIALLY Texans. But not Mexicans. Many of them think they are part of Mexico. You see the term "out-of-staters" in print a lot. That means every white American who wasn't born there.

They don't really like tourists, because they might decide to move there. In their brochures, the government mentions the fact that plague(yes, bubonic) and hantavirus are prevalent.

Did I ever mention that it wasn't until I moved to New Mexico that I became a conservative? That for the first time, I saw the insanities of the Liberal Left right before my eyes?

We didn't have Fox News then, and I was a latecomer to the 'net. All I had was the Dallas Morning News and the occasional network news broadcast, and they shielded me from the wackos quite well.

But then, I had to take the Santa Fe paper (because it had the Times crossword -- dangit I miss those. :-)) and I saw the idiots on parade. And an extremist paper that revelled in all the nonsense. And I said, thanks for the enlightenment.

It didn't take Rush or Fox News or Free Republic to make me to never vote "D" again -- just a bit of sunlight. :-)
