Salvador Martínez and the rest of the family has avoided speaking to reporters. According to what Pastor Espinoza told La Raza, “There is still some resentment, but what is important is that Clara is well and the family has come together to discuss her future.”

Gregoria Ruano revealed that they have not decided what steps to take, and that she personally worries about the wellbeing of her grandchildren, who go to school and are in contact with other children of their age.

“Do Not Resuscitate or Do Not Feed”

Earl Appleby, Director of Citizens United Resisting Euthanasia (CURE), has offered legal support to Clara’s family in the event that they decide to take the case to court. “May God bless Pastor Espinoza for raising his voice in defense of Clara Martínez,” he wrote in a statement published on the group’s Internet page.

There he explains the meaning of the “Do Not Resuscitate” order given to physicians to not attempt to revive a person suffering cardiac or respiratory arrest. This order must come from the person or legal guardian and is signed when physicians come to the conclusion that artificial resuscitation will not affect the final outcome of an illness.

The DNR came into use in the US in the 60’s with the appearance of the defibrillator allowed reversing a cardiac arrest, extending the patient’s life.

However, CURE and other pro-life groups point out that even though the Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order avoids inserting tubes or applying cardiopulmonary apparatus, it does not apply to intravenous provision of feeding, fluids or pain medication.

“DNR does not mean Do Not Feed nor does it justify starvation,” they maintain as basis for their claim that Clara must be legally protected and not treated as a body in a vegetative state.

GEE! Does THIS look FAMILIAR! I was only SCREAMING this from the ROOF TOPS! DNR does not mean DO NOT FEED! One CANNOT *legally* INDUCE cardiac/respitory arrest through the process of starvation and THEN utilize one's *legal* DNR!!!

Geeesh! Unbelievable! The OIG didn't do anything because only a court can over ride a guardian? Okay? so, regardless of whether the GUARDIAN has been in the process of attempting to murder THE WARD by starvation for the past 30 days, whether to starve and murder the WARD is up to the GUARDIAN and ONLY a Judge can stop it?

Please Lord! Please see fit that I am in a PRO-LIFE STATE should I ever succumb to this DREADFUL condition!

I'M MOVING TOMORROW!

Well, I CAN'T, but I WANT to! lol Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

From the article: “All that the husband said was, ‘I don’t believe she would want to live under these conditions,’” Espinoza told La Raza. “Thank God, he has reconsidered and now he is getting together with the family to discuss the issue,” he added.

The husband sounds like what Michael Schiavo was saying, "would not want to live under these conditions," but as the article says, thank God he reconsidered. I hope the rest of the family chooses LIFE.

Also, DNR does not mean "Do not feed," as IleeneWright is always saying.

Thank you very much for the article FR_addict.

If Clara Martinez' family are coming together to "make a decison" about what to do about Clara, I think they should know what dehydration/starvation are. Floriduh voter posted the following article, which I sent to the reporter jmederos@laraza.com, and asked if he could see that the family gets it. I hope he does. If anyone has any other ideas to get this to Clara's family, please do so. I will be gone for most of the afternoon.

“The right to die” and “dying with dignity” are catchphrases that were thrown around quite frequently regarding the removal of a feeding tube from Terri Schiavo, a woman who suffered brain damage 15 years ago. I sincerely doubt most of those people had any idea what they were saying.

How dignified do people consider starva-tion? When confronted with commercials ex-posing the terrible food shortage in many third world countries, “dying with dignity” is not a phrase that jumps to most people’s lips. Perhaps ignorance of what physically happens during starvation and dehydration shields some from considering the gravity of this case.

Medical doctor and ethicist David Stevens has described the process thus: the mouth dries out and the tongue becomes swollen and cracked. The lips become parched and cracked as a thick coating begins to cake the mouth and lips. The eyes sink back into the skull while the cheeks hollow and the lining of the nose begins to crack, potentially causing nosebleeds. The skin turns dry and scaly and hangs loose on the bones. Urine decreases, becoming highly concentrated, and eventually stops completely.

Then, the stomach lining dries out, causing vomiting and dry heaves. Brain cells dry out, too, causing convulsions. The respiratory tract dries out and thick secretions develop, a process that may plug the lungs and airways. Eventually, after the body suffers all these effects, all the major organs fail, including the lungs, heart and brain.

This is an extremely warped idea of “dignity.” It is illegal in the state of Florida, where Terri lived, to put a dog down this way, but for an innocent woman this death sentence will suffice. George Greer, the judge hearing this case has displayed shocking determination to see Terri die. On February 25, he stated that he would only hear motions relating to the “death process” and has denied, without hearing arguments or evidence, the Schindlers’ motion to divorce Terri from Michael and denied, without hearing arguments or evidence, the Schindlers’ motion to remove Michael as guardian.

He also heard, but did not rule on, arguments that Terri should be fed by mouth once the feeding tube was removed and many more very relevant points relating to this case.

Judge Greer skirted and ignored the law more times during this whole fiasco than are permissible to relate in polite company.

In his opinion, nobody should be allowed to determine that “this person is not a living human being, so I decide when I give life or take away life. It’s a sophisticated way of murdering somebody.”

sometimes the obvious has to be stated plainly so that all the smart people of the world can understand it. Well said.

In summary, words from Mary Schindler: 4/22/2005 3:00 PM ET

"My heart aches over the loss of my daughter. She was a part of my daily life for the last 41 years. She would have been residing in our home with us for the last fifteen years had she been allowed. She was, and will always be my baby. I will never forget her. I miss her terribly. The pain and distress she was in during her final days because of what they did to her will never leave my mind. Bob has a difficult time sleeping at night. The last we were told was Michael cremated Terri. This week, our attorneys told us she is still here in Florida. Michael will not tell us where, or what he will do with her and this breaks my heart. As her Mother, I want my daughter to be buried where our family may visit her gravesite. Our only relief right now comes in knowing they can bring no more harm to her. We know that she is safe and in the protected hands of God."

FV SAYS: I'm emailing this to Jeb Bush (who is at the Vatican for the Investiture of Pope Benedict XVI.) and other leaders who trusted this country's broken judicial system with Terri's life. They think we will forget that Terri was tortured and murdered by men in black robes and some women too, not to mention GOP reps. They should think again...

They are strongly mistaken, if they think we will forget. I will remember for the rest of my life that MY country allowed an innocent woman to die.

About Terri's remains. I thought that the law said that Michael was required to share the info about where Terri's ashes would be buried.

Is Michael, et al, going to be allowed to thumb their nose at this law, as well?

Okay no I don't believe in abortion. But I am going to say one thing on this whole Terri Schivo case. Let the woman rest in peace. She is gone now.

And second of all I have already told my family i don't care what is wrong with me but there are not to keep me in that kind of state. I don't care if I care move my eyes. If I can't do anything else they had better let me go. It was wrong for them to let her suffer for 14-15 years like that just for their sakes. Talk about being selfish!!!

I don't want ANYONE to have to suffer by dehydration and starvation. Please DO NOT put in writing that you want to starve to death.

Do your OWN search about what it's like to be dehydrated to death. (I know a favorite thing for the left to do is to attack sources that they don't agree with, no matter WHAT the sources may be.)

For your convenience, this should get you started:
