Mexican Foreign Secretary Visits Valley

EDINBURG - Mexico’s Foreign Secretary told a group of Texas-Pan American students he envisions a day when Mexico and the United States are “integrated.”

Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez Baustista spoke to students about the future of U.S.-Mexico relations. Despite his belief in integration, some students in attendance were not supportive of it.

I read in the article that Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez Baustista hopes that the Minutemen will be prosecuted! He obviously thinks that it is fine for Mexicans to break the laws of our nation by violating our borders, getting fraudulent IDs, and, in some cases, committing theft and violent crimes.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for legal immigration. I would gladly take hardworking and educated people that would not be a burden on our welfare system, our legal system and that contribute to our economy.

What people fail to realize is that this mass immigration of illegal workers is depressing the wages of poor Americans. When I was growing up I knew many people that made a good living in the trades such as construction, mechanics, farming work. These jobs are now listed by President Bush as jobs that Americans do not 'want to do.' What Bush should be saying is that these are now trades that Americans cannot work in and support their families.

The best think that we could do for Mexico is shut down migration. This would close the political 'pressure release valve' of immigration and these frustrated migrants would put more pressure on their government to reform. It would also cut off the remittance cash that is propping up a moribund and inefficient economy so that it can reform.

Tough love is needed.

Derbez also shared his thoughts about the Minutemen Project, a group of civilians who are gathering along the Arizona border Mexico to stop the wave of illegal immigrants from crossing into the country from Mexico.

"Because (the Minutemen) feel frustrated or whatever reason they are doing this,” Derbez said. “They are trying to take the war into their own hands.

“One thing I can tell you is that the U.S. of the 21st century is not the U.S. of the 19th century."

Derbez also added he hopes the group and its members are prosecuted."

Well, at least he knows it's war.

Why not annex Mexico? Most of them live here now anyways. We can then at least pick up some cheap tourist area lands and move the other way while lefties in L.A. support the Mexicans welfare and medical needs.

If NAFTA/WTO is allowed to continue, and if Congress passes CAFTA and/or FTAA, it will be exactly as he says it will be; the US will be merged with Mexico, and with many other nations in the western hemisphere. It is important that you write Congress before it's too late!
