NORTON SUCKS
Excuse me .. NORTON is the very best.
Norton sucks bigtime.
The posting to all the replies will take me forever. I'll do it though. If ya'll haven't heard from me today, check back tomorrow I'll still be answering.
Slow is not good.
And for those not in the know, AVG Free Edition is available at http://www.grisoft.com
I downloaded AVG on the advice of a friend. I'm new to this PC stuff Previous MAC user. I ran the scan and it found 4 viruses that McAfee missed. McAfee was a trial version, it is now gone.
The only good Norton was the bike.
McAfee sucks, Dr. Solomon sucks and Trend-Micro also sucks. I've tried them all and AVG and its sort of (pay) accompanying personal firewall software are fabulous.

NORTON SUCKS
Beautifully stated. AVG is the best AV software on the planet, and it's free for personal use. I ran it side by side with Norton and McAfee in a test. AVG consistently caught and fixed virii that the others either missed altogether, or found but declared unfixable.

As an IT professional, I am inclined to agree. Symantec's (the company who makes Norton... products) quality has slipped as of late. They seem to be following Microsoft's lead and focusing more on pretty interfaces, bells and whistles than quality and stability.
AVG is a free, high-quality virus scanner for Windows.
ZoneAlarm is a free, high-quality firewall for Windows.
With those, and Microsoft's free Anti-Spyware software, you won't need Symantec/Norton any more. :-)
Right on about AVG for antivirus support. It works well, keeps itself updated, and the price is right! Also, ditto the Norton Sucks!
I think it's pretty funny when Norton either 1) detects viruses but can not delete them; 2) itself becomed damaged and unrepairable in some cases (EX: live update will not work or the virus - which Norton missed - will not work or it will not connect to the Symantec site, even manually); etc
AVG has its own problems, but that's another story.
Sybari, Kapersky and Trend '05 eat AVG for lunch and that's a proven fact. Avast is a good free one for those with no dough.
Most people don;t have a hardware firewall, sfw FW like Sygate 5.6, or scan for viruses and spyware daily, delete temp files and cookies daily, have IM running, have P2P and other "sharing" sfw installed, no daily security patches, no strict security checklist, etc.
Some people do not want to take the time to learn about how computers work, what drivers are, what the registry is, what viruses and spyware are, how hackers operate, proper computer maintenance and security, what patch management is, etc etc. etc. etc.
The problem is that they do not listen to metal bands from the 80s! ha ha
All your virus are belong to us.
Inferior product. Had nothing but problems with Norton as well. When I saw rebate forms online, I submitted them with all the proper documentation. Both were rejected by Norton. One of them was purchased online FROM NORTON. Never again in our household. And if you buy it thinking rebate, good luck!
