Student Claims He Was Suspended For Wearing Makeup

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- A ninth-grade student has accused officials at a Southern California high school of discrimination for suspending him for wearing lipstick and eye makeup.

James Herndon, 16, said the five-day suspension imposed Monday by administrators at San Bernardino's Pacific High School was unfair because females are allowed to wear cosmetics on campus.

"If I can't wear makeup," he said, "then the girls or the staff can't wear makeup."

Herndon says his black lipstick and red eye makeup express the Wiccan religious beliefs he shares with his mother, a priestess in the neo-pagan faith. The suspension violates his constitutional right to free expression, he contends.

Linda Hill, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino City Unified School District, declined to comment on the case, citing student confidentiality laws.

She said, however, that students shouldn't wear excessive makeup or clothing that could conceal their identity or be distracting to other students, a prohibition applied to male and female students alike.

Herndon, who is repeating his second year at the school, has worn makeup since he enrolled, according to his mother, Valerie Wallace.

Despite the suspension, Herndon plans to wear the makeup when he returns to school next week.

"My son shouldn't change the way he is," Wallace said.

Freedom of religion was meant to mean REAL religion, ie Christianity/Judaism. Not these various cults that pop up from time to time.
The founding fathers where Christians, and religious themselves. You derive the intent not only from the word but from the conditions at the time as well.

Again, Wiccan is NOT a religion. It's a cult and fits the very definition of Cult.

Thank you for interjecting a little knowledge and common sense, it was noticeably lacking.

Wicca only knows good and evil, not the personification of either.

> Paganism is NOT a religion.

No more so than "monotheism" is *a* religion. "Pagan" covers a LOT of turf, everythign from Hindu to followers fo the Norse gods, to native Americans to Voodoo. Basically, "pagan" means non-Christian/Jew/Muslim... and that's it.

It might be time for you to get on the homosexual agenda ping list as well.

I didn't realize until this thread, but the two could have adjacent pings on some of these.

Many times I see things that would go well for warning others against public schools that fall into the homosexual agenda ping list.

Just a thought.

There are all sorts of variances of this cult. Some are vegetarians too. There are all sorts of wierdo's out there. Just because they once were a member of the army means nothing. People loose their minds regardless of what profession they are in.
I know some who have Satan as their highest priest. Why else do you think they spike their hair into horns, sharpen their teeth into fangs, etc?
Don't you ever watch fear factor? They had one on just a few weeks ago with the whole horn thing going on. The fact is, it's a cult. there is no central book (of spells), a "church", a clergy, etc.

What utter B.S. Keep reading your anti-christian web sites.

Cyrus the Great, who helped the Jews and had influence on them, was Zoroastrian, and that religion was still practiced through the time of Christianity. What, you thought Christianity developed from a vacuum? That's ignorant. I know your brainwashing will allow you to accept nothing but The TruthTM, but history does exist aside from your religion.

Satan IS the central figure.

You're the one worrying about Satan. Everyone else is laughing at you.

For some gruesome examples of just how far some go in this CULT, remember what happened in mexico a few years back during spring break.

For some gruesome examples of just how far some go in this Jesus CULT, remember, well, millions of deaths throughout the centuries, up to and including modern times. Pot, meet kettle.

Same as ever. Better than the knuckleheaded subject of this thread. Sheesh. He's not only gonna get beat up by the jocks... he's due for a beatdown by the local Wiccans.

Freedom of religion was meant to mean REAL religion, ie Christianity/Judaism. Not these various cults that pop up from time to time.
Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

Essentiall we need to remind thses people that MINORS DO NOT HAVE RIGHTS !!!

This freak is 16 and still in 9th grade ???

He's more worried about his "rights"...which is a good thing becuase he needs to remeber that he has the right to remain silent, that anything you say can and will be used against you for the rest of your pathetic life.

So is your claim that we cease to have freedom of religion when somebody can say "that's not a religion."

Yes. The example was absurd because the Republican Party makes no claim whatsoever of being a religion. Of course people can have the personal opinion that something isn't a religion, even members of the Jesus Cult when they're trying to eradicate the competition. But that mere opinion cannot be taken as fact or have any power at all, because as soon as we can officially classify things as not being religion there is indeed no more freedom of religion.

"My son shouldn't change the way he is,"

The words of a mother who made the way her son is.

Some people just go around picking a fight, I guess.

Take note that I did include that in the list of definitions above.

Paganism it's self, is not a religion. It's a term. Pagans could be involved in any number of cults and beliefs as you noted, but "pagan" is not a religion.

And you are right. Christianity is not really a religion either. It's a following. "Religion" is one of those words that have been abused over time.

BTW, I personally have no problems with Christianity, and never otherwise degrade it with claims of Jesus Cult and cannibalism. It's only an attempt to show these dangerous fundamentalists what they're doing. It's probably an impossible attempt though, as their brainwashing is probably better than that of the Palestinian kids who blow themselves up.

This will look GREAT on a resume!
