SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- A ninth-grade student has accused officials at a Southern California high school of discrimination for suspending him for wearing lipstick and eye makeup.
James Herndon, 16, said the five-day suspension imposed Monday by administrators at San Bernardino's Pacific High School was unfair because females are allowed to wear cosmetics on campus.
"If I can't wear makeup," he said, "then the girls or the staff can't wear makeup."
Herndon says his black lipstick and red eye makeup express the Wiccan religious beliefs he shares with his mother, a priestess in the neo-pagan faith. The suspension violates his constitutional right to free expression, he contends.
Linda Hill, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino City Unified School District, declined to comment on the case, citing student confidentiality laws.
She said, however, that students shouldn't wear excessive makeup or clothing that could conceal their identity or be distracting to other students, a prohibition applied to male and female students alike.
Herndon, who is repeating his second year at the school, has worn makeup since he enrolled, according to his mother, Valerie Wallace.
Despite the suspension, Herndon plans to wear the makeup when he returns to school next week.
"My son shouldn't change the way he is," Wallace said.
Jesus and I are fine.
If you say so.
Your faith is not automaticaly a Universal Truth. Great that you have it, but to run around with your hair on fire because others don't view things through your EXACT shade of rose red glasses does not mean we need to take you seriously.
Why? It's not as if he were wearing stripes with plaid.
Later all...
I'm curious what your definition of a dangerous fundamentalist is.
Shalom.
One does not supply proof that something was not done. One is required to supply proof that something was done.
This does not invalidate your argument, per-se, but you can't make your argument by saying, "prove it ain't so."
Shalom.
Actually, Christians have been accused of cannibalism from the beginning. It's not new.
AR is trying to make a point that it takes more than reading an anti-something Web site to understand it.
You HAVE been painting Wicca with a broad brush without fully explaining your meaning.
I agree with you far more than with AR, but his point on this one is very valid.
Shalom.
Nothing of the kind. AR has revealed himself as someone who likes playing logic games but isn't really interested in knowing Jesus Christ. For someone who has never met Christ, this is perfectly natural and reasonable.
If you want to answer him, don't play the logic games. Reality is about more than logic games.
Shalom.
Between this and post 90 your bigotry is showing.
Shalom.

Well, that depends on what the definition of "is" is, doesn't it. ;)
Shalom.
They were not accepted because they were known forgeries or worse.
Remember that the early Church was in a position to know the sources of their documents and to make a declaration as to which were legitimate.
I could write a Gospel. I would have no right to claim it's authenticity. Every Church would have the right to call it bunk.
Shalom.
I just disagreed with this and you restated it. I understand it's your opinion.
My opinion is that you can certainly define religion in such a way as you can decide what is and what isn't one. For starters, you can look at the way the Military decides whether or not to allow one to be a conscientious objector.
It may be difficult, but you don't have to accept anything some "nut job" proposes as a valid religion.
Shalom.
Indeed, because of the wide variances of it's practice. I did give reference to the incident in Mexico where wicca cultists sacrified students on spring break. And I said some are vegitarians. It doesn't have any uniformity.
As far as the cannibalism thing goes, it's only said by those who are ignorant of what Communion symbolizes, and is meant soley to be degrading and insulting.
Cannabolism is when a species eats it's own kind.
LMAO!!!
For the most part, it is. But many try to prove it otherwize. That is fine, but do so with truth. Science depends on truth as well. Science and God can exist happily together. Christainity, or belief in the Christian/Jewish God in general is peaceful and non- threatening to anyone if they choose not to believe. There is no need to demonize it or people who believe.
Wiccans may feel the same way when someone accuses them of Satanism.
I believe that Satan is the author of all beliefs in false gods, but that doesn't mean I can simply make that claim to those who believe in the false gods. They will simply reject my claim.
Shalom.
> If I hate their personalities, am I justified in hating their 'cults of personalities'?

Ah...
Well, now I know where your coming from...
There was a similar story about a Wiccan a few years back in MD. A girl was suspended for casting a spell on another student (that's assault, I suppose). The girl's mother went on TV to defend her daughter's rights to practice her beliefs. At the end of the story, it turns out the "mother" was actually her biological father and a trans-sexual. Is it any wonder these kids are strange?
Well put.
