AND they were all failed asylum seekers who stayed on anyway, from same source (sidebar):
EIGHT of the nine in the dock, including cop killer Kamel Bourgass, sneaked into Britain illegally and remained here due to blunders by officials.
Prosecutor Nigel Sweeney commented on the farce at the Old Bailey.

He said: “The trial has been eye-opening as to the ways in which our immigration laws are routinely and all too easily circumvented.”

A Whitehall source admitted: “It was a shambles which could have cost us even more dearly than it did.”

Bourgass stayed in Britain for three years before his capture — despite being ARRESTED for shoplifting and being fined in court.

Six of the eight acquitted were last night being held in immigration detention. Two have been released as they have permission to stay.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke denied the case was an “embarrassment” for the Government. He added “a very close eye” would be kept on the acquitted.

Clarke is a bigger idiot than his predecessor.
