The solution is obvious. Simplify the tax code and lower the rate. Then people won't cheat.

How so? If someone paid a painter $600 in cash under the table to paint his house, how would the FairTax catch this?

Why is it that the simplest solution will never even be thought of at the fedgov.con? Their solution will be to enact more laws and more taxes and throw more people in debtors prison.

Honestly,I don't have to confess. As a landscape contractor,I could easily take money under the table, but I wasn't raised that way.I do lose quite a bit of business to those who operate off the books and hire illegal labor though.I sleep just fine at night though.

Even Ceasar didn't demand 60%+ of your labors.

Like any of this is new... this article must get re-written in some form or another every April. I always love the union guys who like to work "off the books". Hah! And then they tell me I shouldn't shop at Walmart.

Hey IRS how about all the illegals who work under the table? How about going after all the companies that hire them? Oh yeah I forgot illegals get all the benefits (even in state tuition) wihout paying a dime in tax. Great when you can get it - IRS and Bush admin. commentary to tax paying Americans "Get screwed"

Very good. Too bad Washington does not understand this so very basic concept. And if you reduce taxation, you generate more tax revenue in the end because the REAL BIG TAXPAYERS (business and "the evil wealthy") make more investments, generate more revenues, hire more people, and VOILA -- more tax revenue for the IRS. Reagan proved the concept and generated the best and longest running economy this nation has ever seen (which died eventually under Clinton, of course)....

But don't ask a liberal Kool-Aid drinker, because "reducing taxes is a SCHEME TO GIVE MONEY TO THE WEALTHY"....(idiots!)

The answer is the Fairtax (fairtax.org), i.e. national sales tax. The IRS would be abolished. All those taking cash for services would be paying.
