India rules out reunification with Pakistan

NEW DELHI, April 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ruled out Wednesday any unification with Pakistan on the lines of the merger of East and West Germany.

"The partition of India (in August 1947) is a settled fact. It cannot be undone and should not be undone," Manmohan Singh said in Chandigarh city 250 km north of New Delhi.

The prime minister was responding to a query about the demand from peaceniks that the present bonhomie between the two countries be worked towards their unification.

Pakistan was carved out of India when it got freedom from the British colonial rule. The nuclear neighbors have fought three wars.

Indicating that the present goodwill should not be mistaken as a step towards unification, he said India's effort should instead be to normalize relations with Pakistan and all other neighbors.

"This is incumbent on us to ensure the best relations with all the neighbors, given the close ties of language, religion and kinship between both the countries," he said.

I know. Almost as naive as expecting Israel and Palestine to reunify. Maybe China's state media (the only media in China) wants to drill into its populace the idea of swallowing Tai'wan.

Thank the British for splitting India and Pakistan. If it didn't happen the country would have plunged into civil war that would have killed millions of people.

I doubt it. It's in China's inteest to keep India and Pakistan wary of each other. That they don't have to work hard at it is just a bonus. No large unified state bordering them, instead two large nervous arms markets.

It was Muslims who wanted to break out. Now they see that they are being left behind.

The British didnt split India - it was the islamic terrorists led by Jinnah. According to him - the Muslims could never live with any other religion and hence needed a separate land where the Kafirs would be kept in check. Pakistan means "LAND OF THE PURE"...replace pure with puke and i - concur..
