Socialists demanded new oranges!
Take them away! We demand new oranges! Socialist leaders demanded new fruit on national convention when they discovered the Jaffa-label.
OLE MATHISMOEN
When the leader of the norwegian Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV), which translates into Socialistic Leftist Party, Kristin Halvorsen held a national rally i Kristiansand a few weeks ago, pieces of fruit and water was served as an alternative to chocolate and coffee during the breaks. Party-delegates, guests and members of the press helped themselves greedily. But in SV one is choosy of what one stuffs in ones mouth When an observant delegate discovered a label marked Jaffa on an orange-slice the alarm was sounded. The hotel-management was alerted. The oranges from Israel was not in line with the party ideology! Remove them immediately!
The already sliced oranges was removed from the table before the next brake, and new oranges had to be served.
-We were surprised, and had to run to town to get a different brand. Oranges is a seeson-fruit, and at the time the Jaffa-oranges was of the best quality. Thats why they were on the table, a hotel employee states. SV did not, however, discover that the bananas were from the multinational company Chiquita, and nobody bothered to check where the grapes and peares came from.
Partysecretary Bård Vegar Solhjell confirms the incident: -Yes, thats right. I myself wasnt aware of this until after the convention. SV has for a long time campaigned a consumers boycott of Israeli products. That is why we asked the hotel to find different products, and the hotel-management ensured me that it did not create any problems for them. SV has also signed many petitions against the Israeli occupation and the continuing violation towards the Palestinian population.
(poorly translated by Kurt Hectic)
No matter how you slice it, it's still anti-Semitic.
Is that what you call "Pulp Friction"?
ALL YOUR ORANGES ARE BELONG TO US!!!
Unreal. Get a load of this.
Good one. "Socialists and fruit." Yes, they do have a lot in common, no matter where they come from.
"Now that's just insulting."
Orange you glad you're not a Socialist?
Jaffa kree!
They only want oranges stamped "JUDENFREI" (with a little Swastika logo, just to be certain.)
Ironically, Isreael is socialist and Palestine is not.
My Norwegian is very very rusty.
Actually it's worse than that.
In fact, I don't even know how to say "yes" and "no" in Norwegian. So thanks.
I feel for you. This is a sign of the future in the US if boycotts like the PCUSA (Presbyterians) of companies that do bueinss with Israel go into effect.
By the way, what percentage of the vote do Socialists get in national tickets? And are parliamentarians in Norway elected on a national ticket or from local districts?
Coincidentally, Ha'aretz, the left-leaning Israeli newspaper, reported today that of 100 top growing European companies, 20 are Israeli (I know that Israel isn't Europe, but...) http://www.themarker.com/eng/article.jhtml?ElementId=%2Fibo%2Frepositories%2Fstories%2Fm1_2000%2Foh20050413_02e.xml&AdType=1_A :
Israelis star on Red Herring's most promising companies list

No less than 20 of Red Herring's 100 most promising companies in Europe are Israeli.
Israel is the second most highly represented country, with only Britain providing more than a fifth of the companies on the list.
Together Israel and Britain are responsible for 53% of these promising companies.
Ireland, Finland, France and Germany each have less than 10 names on the list, and the only representative from Luxembourg is the voice over Internet revolutionary, Skype.
Among the 20 are Mellanox Technologies - the mother of InfiniBand technology, Wisair developer of a ultra-wideband chipset for wireless communications, the biotechnology company D-Pharm, EZChip, and Flash Networks.
Now that's funny. Your comment made me laugh out loud.
Thanks. Everyone needs a laugh now and then.
Maybe they'd like some nice dates, fertilized with camel dung.
That is exactly what comes to mind every time I read about the Jaffa in historical context. :)
Stargate is such a cool way of learning history.
