But border patrol has never been a priority in this country, yet the US has won many a wars. I understand your point, but I don't think the rest of the world perceives Mexico as an enemy of America. Hell, you might as well include the Canadians - we're all Americans.

Number one, most of the world doesn't live in Cochise County, Arizona and hasn't seen the Mexican government enabling the invaders who are causing all of the problems around here. The Mexican government IS an enemy of the United States.

Second, only U.S. Citizens are Americans. Nobody else deserves that designation.

Clearly you cound't be more wrong. We have wonderful diplomatic and tourist relations with Mexico. Also, check you maps - we're all Americans (US, Mexico, Canadians).

It seems to me that one's geographic location is the best predictor about how seriously one takes this issue. If you don't find yourself living among the problems caused by illegal immigration, it's kind of abstract. You can buy into the phony economic arguments, and the very American tendency to take the part of the underdog. If you live on the border, or live or work in a city that's dealing with the social costs, though, it's a different matter.

Until they live it first hand, many folks just don't get it.
