Royal Caribbean apologized to the couple and refunded $2,800 for the tickets. The company declined to reimburse them for medical care or hotel expenses incurred while waiting to get home.
Sounds like an open and shut lawsuit to me. What the heck is Royal Caribbean thinking?

You'd think the cruse line would suck up to them. this is horrible PR made worse by the cruse lines refusal to pay the related expenses.

I saw a show about the dark side of cruise lines on television a few years ago. Because of the place of a ship's registry and some other jurisdictional loopholes, these company are apparently hard to sue.

I'm thinking the same thing. Royal Caribbean should be going out of their way to make this couple happy for the measly extra couple thousand it might cost compared to the thousands and thousands of lost revenue the embarassment and stigma a lawsuit could cause.

(Victory is not relative, it is absolute.)

The potential claims might be covered by some treaty -- don't laugh -- that might limit damages. The company should have settled with them confidentially for ten times their ticket price -- it would have been a bargain. They just lost millions in publicity and (probably) bookings.
