Apparently he had a four-hour meeting last night that p*ssed him off---and while he didn't explicitly say so, it seems this meeing was with his lawyers who are battling an attempt by NYC to declare him a "resident" in order to require him to pay city taxes!

I also got the sense that he thinks a lot of celebs (maybe other hosts) are constantly hanging around just for what he can do for them. He's spoken a lot about "phoneys" and people who "aren't real," and I took that to be "friends" who really only want to get Rush to do something for them.

He made it pretty clear it was tax-related.

...how people are trying to get in 'his back pockets' and how he can't trust anyone.

Must be someone formerly considered lovely and gracious.

I haven't listened at all today because I am at work. But I suspect the "tax thing" has to do with the following.

A man who lives in Tennessee is employed by a company in NY. He telecommutes and does ALL of his work from his home in Tennesse.

The NY Court of Appeals (NY's highest court) ruled that even though he does not live in NY nor work in NY, his employer is based in NY so he has to pay NY State income taxes on 100% of his income.

I strongly suspect that Rush is getting slapped with a NY State income tax bill because he not only owns property in NY, but his flagship station, WABC is based in NY.

...and that would matter to Rush?

That 5 day rule was just changed by NYs highest court. Now, even if you NEVER set foot in NY but your employer is in NY you have to pay NY income tax on 100% of your earnings.

I don't listen to her website. Her show is quite good, though.

Without a doubt that State is the most extortionate, underhanded, willing to stop at nothing to get money not owed than any other state.

You got that right. NY is the state that once sent govt. agents down to Pa. to take down license plate #'s of cars parked at shopping malls so they could send them letters demanding they pay sales & USE tax on the stuff they were buying there. It got shot down but the thought was there and still is. They are trying to get taxes from the Indians again for instance. That one never goes away. This state... well I better not say what I am thinking.

I will retire this year and I can't wait to get the H-E double hockey sticks out of here!.

Not sure how I feel hearing him vent about his personal tax problems affecting his megamillion empire

How would you feel if you worked for a company based in NY, never set foot in NY (Rush does though), and had to pay NY state income taxes on 100% of your income?

Would you be calm, cool, and collected? Or you would you be a fireball of a pissed off energy problem?

Due to a recent court ruling by NYs highest court, NY can no demand income taxes on 100% of your income if your employer is in NY, even if you live and work 1000 miles away.

Regardless of Rush's financial well being, he is rightly pissed and so should every one else be.

He's not quiting.

What has happened is that little things are piling up. Apparently N.Y. is trying to tax him for a living residence even though he doesn't live in N.Y. This was the breaking point. This on top of the Reps acting like the minority and he's on a tear.

I back him 100% on what he's said today.

He must be on a different chemical substance today.

Someone accused him Friday, I believe, of slurring his words. And then I started listening a little more closely and he did sound off. But, then again, I am a worry wart. I hope everything is OK with him.

Hearing problems easily lead to slured words.

If Rush stubs his toe on the way home from work tonight, can I be the first one to post a separate thread on it?
Or has somebody else already been designated for that possibility?

New York sounds just like California, with the use tax and threats to prosecute people who buy stuff out of state (especially via the Internet) and not pay the tax. The California use tax has been challenged off and on since the 1930s and the courts have always upheld it. New York, though, has California beat on the income tax deal.

Sounds like he has issues behind the scenes that his audience isn't aware of.

NY sent agents to the Short Hills Mall to take down the license plates of shoppers.

How dare they cross the river to buy clothing without sales tax.

Hubby worked in NY for many years, there is not a good word to be said about working there, particularly during Dinkins, but just overall.
