LAKELAND -- Autopsies didn't pinpoint what killed twin sisters who were found in their motel room Friday, officials said Sunday.
Toxicology tests will be conducted to determine whether drugs were in the sisters' systems, but the results of those tests may not be known for several weeks, said Dr. Stephen Nelson, Polk County's medical examiner.
An examination of the bodies Sunday didn't find any trauma injuries that would explain the deaths of the 44-year-old sisters, Nelson said.
Nelson said Charlotte Rowse Johnston and Jennifer Rowse had been dead for more than 24 hours when their bodies were found in a room at the Days Inn motel on East Memorial Boulevard.
The bodies were discovered by motel manager Ricky Lashomb, a Lakeland police report said. Lashomb told police that Johnston had rented a room from April 1 to Friday.
When she didn't check out Friday he went to her room to ask if she wanted to leave or re-register. When she didn't answer, he tried to open the door and found it was locked from the inside, the report said.
Lashomb told police he forced his way in and found one woman lying on the bed and the other sprawled on the floor. He called the police.
Police who checked the room found the curtains had been tightly closed and fastened with safety pins, and the air-conditioner was on.
At the time, officers did not immediately know who the women were or even whether the room was registered to either of them.
After investigation, it was discovered that the victims were Johnston and Rowse. Johnston has a Plant City address but police haven't found a recent address for Rowse.
Were they Siamese twins???

Check the air conditioner circulator and were there any combustion motors nearby or diesels left parked and running.
I'll bet anyone that drugs will come out in the toxicology scan. Why? Here's a hint:
Yes, they have been living the "hard" life by appearences.
Florida. Approximately midway between Orlando and Tampa off of I-4.
In their defence, noöne looks their best when lying on a morgue slab more than a day dead
What equestrians refer to as "rode hard and put away wet".
***. This is a local story for me, so I will post followups as they occur,***
I am following this with interest.
What a strange story!
Those photos were not taken from the slab, more like mug shots.....
Thanks.
These pics look like mugshots.
This looks like another Judge Greer job.
Notice how the photos are cropped above the date/location/prisoner# card......
In Plant City they could be mistaken for prom photos. Just kidding, a little local bigotry on my part.
Sounds like a double-suicide---air cond on to preserve bodies and limit smells, curtains pinned together, door locked from within.
From those photos they look like tweakers. (meth) Could you ping me when the toxicology comes through?
If you tell me how to do it (ping, that is).
Oh yeah, BTW, this county (Polk) is the meth capitol of the state. Large, the majority of it being very rural.
Maybe it's just an April fools joke and they'll jump up and grab the coroner any minute now. CLASSIC!
