Do the contractors (eg the brother of your friend) have security services of some sort with them while they work? I've never been able to acquire information on whether the contractors have some sort of private (armed) security service watching their backs. Might you know? Thanks.

Some do, some don't. Some contract workers resent the security they are given. I have a friend doing security work. If the workers ignore the security procedures(or worse, share them with the Iraqis)no amount of security will help. He complains that the workers are his biggest problem right now...

I don't know. I just called my friend's home and got their answering machine. I'll try to find out an answer to your question this evening and report back anything I discover.

Sometimes the do, but working out in the open as they often do, a small security team is no match for what they might face.

MOST contractors work inside the wires and 'only' face the danger of indirect fire.

Look up Triple Canopy, Global Security, Erynis, Blackwater, Dyncoprs, etc for security opportunities. $600/day for some.

Or follow the like I posted above and check out all the security companies that have had fatalities.

The US banned contractors from carrying weapons. Pretty dumb.

It depends on the company that hired them. Most companies have security teams.

Problem is that a lot of companies do not want to pay for secureity. Or some contractors believe that if they just try to blend in they are safe. They never are. Some contractors think that because they are there to rebuild Iraq the people love them. Wrong answer.

Some companies don´t like to pay the costs of American and British security teams so they go with Iraqi teams. Many of the employees do not like this and want American or brit teams but the companies want the cheapist security they can get. You get what you pay for.

I am sure that if this contractor had had security and was captured we would have heard about his dead body guards so I am inclined to believe he did not have any.
