Ask any Christian from the Middle East about dhimmitude, and they can give you first hand experience. The exception was Lebanon before the civil war because the Christians in general were the wealthier people. In the Ba'athist states of Iraq and Syria, Christians didn't fare too badly (as Christians)....it was just that the whole country was totalitarian. The fact is, the Christians of Iraq will continue to emigrate.....the same will happen in Syria when Assad goes. Where have all the Christians in the Holy Land gone? (they were about 40% of the Arab pop. in 1900). The Copts of Egypt have a large viable community, but they suffer daily as it is under a Mubarak government. What will happen if the Muslim Brotherhood gains control of Egypt. I don't advocate that dictators like Assad or Saddam should reain or have remained in power, or that change doesn't come to Egypt as well---but it seems that the ancient Christian communities of the region are doomed unless a minor miracle happens.
