Nine days of blockade has begun to result in desperation.
We believe 500-700 illegals and their coyotes are bottled up in the Huachuca Mountains at present. They are running out of food and water. We have also figured out the system used here for putting out food and water caches and have been routinely using them to add some variety to our dogs’ diets. Our canine companions are most appreciative.
A recap of last night’s action: several Minuteman were almost run down by a fleeing load vehicle last night. Fellow LePer idratherbe painting is now on the injured reserve list after a bad fall into a dry wash at the same location. Another Minuteman is “under investigation” for making physical contact after saving an illegal from a bad fall.
This morning began with round up of the illegals who missed their ride in the fleeing vehicle the night before. Two had become thoroughly lost and confused and walked up to one of the MMP teams asking for directions. When the realized who they had approached, they took off running and practically jumped into a Border Patrol vehicle.
The daylight hours were uneventful other than a prolonged visit by CNN’s Lou Dobbs. He spent most of his time out on the Naco Line along the border fence. Those of us in the canyons got a visit from those fine folks from the ACLU. They chose to set up in a dull spot with a fine view of Ash Canyon.
All hell has broken loose since nightfall. Several groups have come down out of the mountains to attempt a getaway. Scanner traffic gives a tally so far of five load vehicles captured, about 70 illegals in custody, and a similar sized group scattered throught the west end of Hereford and being picked up piecemeal. We have recovered three coyote cell phones and the call histories should prove interesting.
In the next few days a couple of us are going to experiment with putting live scanner traffic up on the internet. If it works, you’ll be able to listen in on the action as it happens.
In parting tonight, if the phrases “Minuteman Project” and “shrunken heads” become strongly associated soon, it’s all my fault. Sorry, but I refuse to rein in my warped sense of humor. It’s down right amazing what rarities you can buy online, isn’t it?
Can you post these phone numbers? That would make a great FREEP, along with driving up the coyotes friend's cell phone bills.

I think everyone near a border licensed to carry a weapon should join the Project. Folks with cams could monitor from a safe distance. Stream the video on the web- that's reality TV! If the gov. doesn't like it they can build a good strong high fence.
Illegal immigration is out of control, and very dangerous with the terrorist threat.

Citizens assaulted by possible people smugglersThis area is the area I've described in a few recent updates. This is the place where the woman was messing with the coyotes by removing their pick up/food drop markers from the fence, where two coyotes were spotted Saturday night, where the cell phone in my possession was recovered, and where 200 criminal invaders were reported last night. It is less than miles from my house.4/11/05 (ABP) -- American citizens were driving east on Hereford road in Hereford, Arizona, 3 miles east of SR 92 this morning at 11:05 am when they observed two vehicles on the side of the road. One was a blue pickup and the other a silver SUV. The citizens observed people jumping over a fence toward the vehicles and began to call the Border Patrol. The SUV sped away but the pickup driver, seeing the citizen using the cell phone, tried to run them off the road.
The citizens were able to avoid being hit, but did stay behind the pickup a safe distance and got its license number which was called into the Border Patrol
The citizens continued to follow the pickup truck until it finally turned onto SR 92 northbound. The Border Patrol and Sheriff pulled the vehicle over a short distance up SR 92 at Ramsey Canyon Road.
The citizens are pressing charges against the people in the pickup truck.

Where is the MSM stories about this? Our citizens being assaulted on the border and there's no outrage? (except here, of course). I'd say someone trying to run a person down with a vehicle warrants a lot more attention than someone having to hold up a T-shirt! Glad to hear the MM got the license number and are pressing charges.
I appreciate the statistics but my guess is that they are only telling half the story. The published statistics prove that the Minutemen have had a strong deterrence effect. But I'll bet that they have also had a big impact on the effectiveness of enforcement.
I have always heard that for every illegal that the Border Patrol catches, 3 or 4 allude them and successfully abscond into our interior. While the Border Patrol is working damn hard and making over a million arrests per year, there are not enough of them and consequently their apprehension rate is miserable. The border is effectively wide open and every illegal willing to keep trying eventually succeeds in slipping through.
My guess is that not only are less illegals attempting to cross, but of those few who try, I bet a lot lower percentage is successfully eluding the Border Patrol. All the extra eyes have got to be driving the apprehension rate through the roof. It sounds like on the section of the border where the Minutemen are in action that you all are arresting maybe 9 out of every 10.

"I can hear the BP helicopter flying overhead, likely looking for stragglers in the field."IMO, the use of Ultra-Lights makes more sense in that environment, especially for the Minutemen, since they are one to two orders of magnitudes cheaper in cost, anyone can legally fly them, they're extremely easy to fly, they can land and take off any where (I've used driveways and parking lots), they run on the same type of gas your auto uses (I've taxied into gas stations). Check out the small local air strips in your area and you'll find ultra-lights there and it won't be hard to get the owners to cooperate with the project.

I love the idea. You don't need or even want much altitude to observe an area, you can radio in everything you see, and there's all kinds of open space in the desert for take off and landing.
Plus, I've always wanted an excuse to get and fly an ultralight. Thanks! Now, does anyone have a good, used ultralight they'd want to lend me/give to me?
Ultralight plane crash kills Willcox man An ultralight airplane crash in a Southeastern Arizona canyon has killed a Willcox man. Cochise County Sheriff's deputies arriving at the crash site Wednesday afternoon found the body of 57-year-old Pete Brunner.Why do you think he was keeping watch over his family's ranch with an ultralight? Maybe looking at cattle and such. Possibly watching for illegal aliens messing with his ranch. Quite possible.The owner of Leroy Airport, an ultralight airport about 12 miles south of Willcox, said Brunner had flown out of there that morning as he had regularly for about 12 years.
Officials say a half-hour after his take-off, gusts of wind reached 40 to 50 miles per hour. The man used his small aircraft as a tool for keeping watch over his family's ranch. He was married with two adult sons.
Officials are continuing an investigation into the cause of the crash.
Even better would be Powered Parachutes which are supposedly safer than ultralights. Possibly cheaper since they're not fixed wing. Hmmm...
