>>, I'd prefer we have a 5KM zone,<<
That would lead to a large eminent domain takeover of private property which would only give the FEDS more of a bad name and a lot of unhappy citizens.
Now 'the more of a bad name' might just get a few governors to actually stand up straight again in the name of states rights, not a bad thing at all IMO.
Thank you. You can´t color the everybody in an organization with the same brush.
And yes, I support the MM program so don´t start your gripin.
Absolutely right.
It isn't effective in stopping crossings. Let's be honest about that aspect of it. As a form of protest, only time will tell.
How's the nightlife in Panama?

What a total load. I had BP agents pull up to meet my team as we came out of the trail at the end of the road on Hunters Canyon, ask what did we see, call it in and drive on. Took out word on what was up there, never questioned it. The rank and file agents were eating it up.
"The Border Patrol was quick to dismiss the notion that the Minuteman Project is the reason for dwindling migrant traffic in some areas. "

We need 10,000 volunteers, and the borders will be sealed tight!!!!
Yea right. It is just coincidence that apprehensions in that area that average about 1000 a day were down to less than 20 by Wednesday. Someone is blowing CYA cause they cant stand the fact that the MMP is doing exactly what they said it would do. I personally had BP agents grinning big time when they would spot us and come ask what did we find up the canyons.

"Comforting, huh?"
NOT!
""Name and Shame List" of companies that hire illegals. "
FATBURGER hamburger chain.
I think you are right. Know why? Nothing else makes any sense.

Hee hee.....lets see them spin THAT!!!!
You forgot = driving around in an air conditioned SUV.
In this month's Limbaugh Letter, Rush wrote an article about this project and about immigration in general.
What surprised me .. Rush said at least twice that the WH was misreading the politics of this issue. The legal Hispanics are not eager to allow ILLEGAL hispanics to enter into the USA .. they believe all immigrants should enter the legal way.
Rush also talked about jobs - and I found it to be another disagreement with the WH. Amazing!
Rush said he hoped the WH was paying attention and would realize it had to change it's policy because Americans are fed up with being left unprotected - especially after 9/11.
I also believe this is why Hillary has jumped on this bandwagon about doing more about illegal immigration. This puts her to the right of President Bush - and probably any other repub who might run in 2008. That is not good.
I guess Rush is a racist too....and a vigilante.
(sarcasm off)
whoops ...I forgot...Nazi too.

Andrea Zortman says she and other agents have rescued many immigrants who turned over their money to coyotes only to be left stranded in the searing heat of the desert. "If the smuggler feels that they are lagging behind the group or if the smuggler feels that they will not make it, that coyote will just leave them out here. He will just leave them," she says. "He will continue on with his group and so that person is left there in the middle of nowhere. They may not have water or food and they definitely do not know where they are. Sometimes a hunter will come across them or sometimes we will catch their group farther down the road and someone in that group will let us know that they left a person in distress out there."

Agents in the field carry extra water and first aid supplies, but for serious cases they call on the Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue teams, known as BORSTAR. These teams include trained paramedics and can use intravenous injections of fluid in cases of severe dehydration. The next three months are the hottest and deadliest for immigrants here.

"For the most part, if they are just coming across to visit their family or get a job and a better life, they will try a couple of times and then we will not see them anymore. But if they are a coyote or smuggler, those are the ones who obviously have been crossing multiple times and so we get them into the station and look them up in the computer system," says Ms. Zortman. "If they have been caught multiple times pretty much around the same area and each time they are with completely different people than the time before that is usually a telltale sign that they are the guide or smuggler."
Human smugglers are often as sinister and dangerous as drug traffickers. They usually lend the immigrants the money they charge for the trip -- around several hundred dollars for each immigrant -- and then extract payment from family members back home. Much of the estimated $12 billion in remittances sent home by Mexican immigrants each year may be going to smugglers.

"I'm not trying to demonize people and call them all evil racists; it's definitely a fear and concern," Ybarra said. "I hope it's a real fear and concern of the volunteers as well. The border road looks like a smorgasbord for white supremacists to come and recruit."

Ybarra says it's unfortunate the minutemen have gotten so much attention, when hundreds of people die crossing the border every year.
"The real focus should be on the needless suffering and death," he said.
