I haven't seen the book, but Judy Blume's books always made me uncomfortable. I steered my children away from them-- just not appropriate to my way of thinking.

Her books are poorly written, imo. Too much me, Me, ME from the narrator.

With all the many good books available, Judy Blume's books will not be missed. I read two, and like you, them made me uncomfortable, and I decided not to have my daughter read them. Besides, I they were not well written, certainly no "Little Women" or "Black Beauty."

Let me get this straight. You can't read "Forever" but they hand out condoms in schools? Am I the only one who sees a "disconnect"?
