Have you read "THE PROTEUS OPERATION" , by James P. Hogan? It's alternative history, with Hitler having won WW II. You might enjoy it. :-)
It won't help you datewise, but if you ever want to talk about things Victorian/Edwardian, please FREEPmail me. :-)
I'll have to check it out. I also like another genre of science fiction/alternate history called "Steampunk." Steampunk is basically set in a Victorian world where you have steam driven mechanical computers (called Babbage engines) where a group of "klackers" (like hackers) have their subculture, steam driven robots, Zeppelins and so on. There is a site for a steam driven spaceship called
Steam Trek that is sort of like Star Trek crossed over with a steampunk world.
As to Victorian freepmail, I'll have to collect my thoughts but it is a favorite era of mine.
Interesting fantasy line, which I haven't heard of. Sort of a CLOCKWORK ORANGE meets H.G. Wells? LOL
I'm a true nutter of the Victorian/Edwardian eras ( have been all of my life !), so I can give you a real run for your money of that topic, should you be interested in a chat, book list, or just want to hear family stories. :-)
Have you read "TIME AND AGAIN" ? If not, I suggest you get it and read it, as I highly recommend this book. Yes, it's fantasy ( time travel ), but contains a vast amount of factual history as well.
And then there are the books by Caleb Carr..."THE ALIENIST" and "DARK ANGEL".
All of the books I've suggested take place in N.Y.C. and are fiction. If you want to get into a discussion about English and European books about that era, I have many, but they are all nonfiction. You might also want to read some fiction written in those eras and I can also give you a book list on them as well. :-)
