Bush was named an honorary Singing Cadet and received an official sweater at Saturdays concert.
Eagle photo/Patric Schneider Former President George H.W. Bush sings God Bless the USA with the Singing Cadets. It is no secret that former President George H.W. Bush loves Texas A&M University and all the traditions that define it.
So when the Texas A&M Singing Cadets suggested that he become an honorary member of the group, he readily accepted.
During a performance Saturday night at Rudder Auditorium, members of the student singing group presented the former president with an Aggie sweater to celebrate the honor. Bush immediately removed the mustard-colored sports coat he was wearing and put on the sweater.
I feel like Mr. Rogers, he joked to the audience.
To close out the first half of the show, Bush joined the cadets in singing Lee Greenwoods God Bless the USA.
He said becoming an honorary Singing Cadet was an emotional experience. He enjoys seeing the well-known group perform at his presidential library on campus and at other functions.
I have great affection in my heart for their music, Bush said in an interview after he finished singing.
Such Aggie traditions were a big part of why he decided to house his library at A&M, Bush said. He said he loves the underlying theme of patriotism that is present in almost all of the traditions, as well as the friendly atmosphere of the campus.
Gig 'em!
Looks like he's got a long list of things to do in lieu of shrinking government and securing the border. How touching.

Whoops! Wrong Bush. Damn that speed reading course!
