The Chris Matthews' liberal-Catholic types, who now call for a more "progressive" pope, don't get it that truth doesn't change with the times, nor is truth determined by humans.
I don't get it either. They praised the Pope for his unwavering beliefs yet, they want a new Pope more progressive.
For the mother! The baby dies nearly 100% of the time. (I know you meant that.)
Pray for our nation. Pray that this monstrosity called abortion ends in our lifetimes.
And this Southern Baptist thanks our faithful and stalwart Catholic brothers and sisters. May the Lord our God bless you all!!
"Did the Pope hedge on creationism vs. evolution?"
Did he hedge?
No.
Like most Catholics, the Pope matter-of-factly accepted evolution as a feature of the natural world, like planetary orbits or gravity.
And like most devout Catholics, the Pope did not see any conflict between accepting the science of evolution and the sanctity of human life.
As a priest once put it to me: "God made the world and everyone in it. Evolution is how He did it. So what? (Et alors?)"
An old chestnut of the Catholic approach to science and the Bible is: "The Bible teaches you how to go to Heaven, not how the heavens go."
So no, the Pope didn't hedge on creationism versus evolution. The Pope and the Church accept evolution, and teach it. Intelligent design? Of course. But over the course of billions of years, not 6000 or so. If you attend Catholic school, you will be taught the theory of evolution in biology class. In theology class you will be taught intelligent design and to understand Genesis as a sacred poem, full of beautiful allegorical language. Creationism/evolution is not a battle front in the Catholic Church. God made us. Evolution is how. Now let's focus on being good people - this is the Catholic approach.
