Government Website which shows Abstinence Preference (FYI for anyone interested. NOT horrible)

4Parents.gov is part of a new national public education campaign to provide parents with the information, tools and skills they need to help their teens make the healthiest choices. There is no substitute for caring parents who are involved in their children's lives. If preteens and teens are going to make the choices that will enable them to become healthy adults, they need parents to talk frankly with them about sensitive topics like sex and relationships. Parents who have been reticent to talk with their teens and preteens about these issues now have a new resource in this website.

The decisions young people make now can affect their health and character for the rest of their lives. Although most young people today are making strides toward becoming healthy adults, some teens risk their health and their future through early sexual activity. Each year about 850,000 teens get pregnant and half become teen parents. About three million teens get a sexually transmitted disease (STD). While many STDs have no symptoms, some cause pain and illness, and either can prevent teens from ever becoming parents. Some, like HIV/AIDS can kill them.

You have the most influence on the choices your teen makes. This website tells you why you need to talk to your teen; what you should talk about; and how you can do it so that your teen will listen and care about what you say. Because teens who feel connected to their parents are much less likely to have sex, drink, smoke, use drugs or be violent, this website will show you how to connect with your teen and give you the skills you need to talk about sensitive issues like sex. And it will help you help your teen know what healthy relationships are and how they are formed and maintained.

4Parents.gov is sponsored by the Office of Public Health and Science, Office of Population Affairs, and the Public Health Service. "Teen Chat," and "Parents, Speak Up!" guides are the result of a collaborative effort between the Administration for Children and Families and the Office of Population Affairs, Office of Public Health and Science.

The National Physicians Center for Family Resources (NPC) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded for the purpose of involving physicians in health and child welfare public policy issues, both at the state and national levels. They provided customized content for the following health specific topics for this site: Sexual Development and Health; Parenting; Risky Behaviors; Mental Health; and Ask the Expert. Physicians who belong to this national network volunteer their time and expertise to promote best practices in public health and child welfare. NPC also produces educational resources for families and health educators. Visit NPC at: www.physicianscenter.org

I looked around on this. I would be interested in any opinions on this. It seems reasonable in that it seeks to promote children NOT having sex. (see: duh.)

Hm, why would an abstinence preference be "horrible"? :-)

I said it is NOT horrible. Specifically my opinion was that this gov site was not horrible. (surprised me)

I was soliciting other opinions since a NOT horrible government program is an exception not the rule when it comes to sex education.

Sorry, I meant it to be a rhetorical question, as you and I are on the same page. :-)

"It seems reasonable in that it seeks to promote children NOT having sex."

It would help if we could stop Hollywood from promoting a carefee sexual "anything goes" lifestyle amoung teens as well. It's not unusual to watch a tv show aimed at teens to show a couple of kids "experimenting" with homosexuality or sex in general, as if it was just a normal thing all kids do.

Sexual pleasure has always been recognized in Scriptural teachings. Responsibility as well.
