Me: There is no record of ANYONE saying ANYTHING that is in the Gospels before the Gospels were widely circulated,

You: Paul's Epistles predate the Gospels -- Corinthians and Ephesians, both from circ. 50 I believe.

I believe your dating is correct but Paul says virtually nothing that is in the Gospels. Paul knows Jesus was crucified, but that is about it.

1 Corinthians 11

Institution of the Lord's Supper
23For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.

All logical, really, since there was no need to write anything down: the common belief (at that time, < 100 A.D.) was that Christ was coming back really, really soon.

Slowly, when it was realized that His return was not as imminent as they had hoped, they began to compile the writings. Logical, when you think about it, and not indicative of the import you purport. ;)

Seriously, when you consider how "quickly" the Gospels were written, it was soon enough that very little alteration would have crept into them. Remember: they were an oral culture. The "telephone game" we played in school--where a message changes as it's passed along--wouldn't have been tolerated in an oral-based culture. They were much better at memorization than we are today, because they had to be.

Btw, I met a man who has memorized the entire Koran. It can still be done.

For more explanation on why this is a crucial point, borrow a copy of The Case for Christ. There is less gap between the origin event and manuscript writing time for Christianity, and with many more copies extant for the Gospels, all of which support Christianity's claims than there is evidence the authenticity of our copies of Plutarch, Aristotle, Pliny, Herodotus, et al.

(Little-known fact)
