Paul never met these 500 people"""

Unlikely that he hadn't met them. He spent a lot of time in Jerusalem, and he was writing his letters only 17 after Jesus' death and resurrection. People who had been Jesus' age - 33 - at that time, would be only 50 when Paul wrote.

You make me sick. And yes, I have been on Free Republic for several years and am the chapter director for the Kentucky Free Republic Network. flame away.

LOL. Somehow, I'm guessing that you'd find it quite all right for Christian posters to point out all that is wrong with Christians converting to Judaism, should I start posting some of those stories. Bet the "they'll burn in hell" comments wouldn't be considered hijacking the thread in that case. ;-)

You would be guessing wrong.

You really don't get it do you?

Christ died. Christ rose. The gospel is that simple. The rest explains why.

1 Corinthians 1:22-24 (New King James Version)
New King James Version (NKJV)

22For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Good gravy, there is scads of "independent" historical evidence to "back up Jesus." Judge the Gospels and the New Testament by the same standards used to judge any other ancient texts, from Homer to Socrates to Josephus--they well exceed those texts in legitimacy. That leaves one with the age-old problem of how to deal with the testimony of these eyewitnesses: Did He really feed five thousand? Did He really cure the blind? Did He really rise from the dead? You can reject the testimony or accept it, but you cannot with any credibility deny that the story told by the Apostles has been consistently told for 2,000 years.

Christianity is not based purely on "belief," it is firmly based in logic. Read Aquinas, read Augustine, read C.S. Lewis. The answers to all questions about Christianity are out there, if you seek them.

The poster who is ranting against Christianity and slandering Saint Paul sounds like Dan Brown's little brother. Lots of heat, no light.

He never claims to have met them.

He says in Galatians:

Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.

So there is no indication that he met anyone who claimed to have met Jesus other than Peter and James.

Let me get this straight. Christians are allowed to say how great their religion is and that Jews should all convert to Christianity but, if anyone disagrees, he is "ranting against Christianity," he "hates Christians," he is "slandering," he is "ignorant," he should be "banned," his messages should be removed and blah, blah, blah.

You guys just can't take debate. Only your view is allowed.

Let me tell you about a fine group called Christians for Allah. They are all good Christians, but believe that Mohammed was the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and all other Christians need to accept Mohammed's teachings, or burn for an eternity in Hell. I hope you will welcome them with open arms, they want to share Mohammed's message of peace with all of you. Enjoy, and remember, they are good Christians, so they are just like you. If you don't approve of them, you're just a racist, sexist, homophobic extremist fanatic. Here's a Koran.

This is brilliant. Perspective BTTT.

You've obviously got an axe to grind. Who knows why? And who cares?

In my experience, most people with your attitude towards other people and other religions burn out rather quickly. That kind of hate and resentment is toxic.

So you can't be an atheistic Jew or an agnostic Jew, correct? Only practicing orthodox Jews are Jews?

BTW who is in charge of determining who is or is not Jewish? Is there some central Jewish authority on what is or is not Judaism and who is or is not Jewish? Or are you the authority on the subject?

Jay's brother Scott is likewise a Christian, and serves as the Messianic Rabbi of Beth Adonai here in Atlanta. He's been my minister's mentor for a number of years, and is actually one of the main influences that led me to Messianic worship in the first place (he conducted a Passover service at my old SB church some years ago that I had the pleasure of attending).

Poor analogy. Try using a religious group whose country and culture has provided sanctuary, liberty, goodwill, and respect towards Christians, as Christians in the U.S. have Jews.

To use a group (muslims), that we are currently at war with and in general have a relationship of animosity (in a great part because our nation's support for Israel, I might add), is a most inaccurate comparison.. unless, what Christians' feel for Islam is what Jews feel for Christians. Is this the case, Alouette?

A more proper analogy would be that of the "Christians for Moses" angle. Ah.. but that one does not plunge the dagger into the heart of the Christian, eh Alouette? Since Christians in this nation consider Jews their friends, it just doesn't convey the digust you intend. I do hope that disgust (for Christians) is not equal to the example you posit.

Ah.. but that one does not plunge the dagger into the heart of the Christian, eh Alouette?

I'm opposed to a group using fraudulent techniques to ensnare uneducated Jews away from Judaism and that makes me "anti-Christian" bigot? Or are you suggesting that Christians have been so nice and kind to the Jews throughout all the centuries that we should all just storm the churches and get baptized out of pure gratitude?

"Jews for Jesus" a Baptist group formerly known as "Board of Missionaries to the Jews" is a pernicious group preying on Jewish ignorami who never had the benefit to study their own scriptures and teachings. These Jews are vulnerable and they are being misled. I have no problem with them recruiting unchurched Christians but please leave the Jews for the rabbis and stop acting like you won the greatest trophy when you snag one.

You do realize that the trinity is One God.

Isaiah 48:16 -- Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.

A few of the Old Testament Scriptures pointing to Jesus.

Ok, I've thought about. Still works just fine.

Feel free to present some reasons why I should reject the analogy.
