"There is no rift. "

Have you been reading the posts on the Terri threads?

There were quite a few passionate people here who wanted Terri dead.

I can understand those (myself included) who were passionate about keeping her alive and noticing the monstrous injustice that is being perpetrated, but I never could understand the passion of those who wanted her dead.

I have been reading the threads, but i take them with a grain of salt given the number of trolls because of the topic.

Terri is not going to cause a "split" because even after the death, republicans still agree on the same enemies.

Honest debate on FR is not equal to a "split" for the GOP. It is not like we are democrats or something.

Yes there is a rift.

The case of Terri Schiavo was not the cause of the rift, it was just an example that illustrated it well. It was a case that highlighted the differences between conservatives who believe in states rights over federal powers and those who do only when it suits their needs; between conservatives who believe in personal freedom over government control and those who prefer strong government control over life's most personal aspects so as long as they don't get taxed.

I agree. I think it's going to be a battle regarding the courts. As long as there are judges who refuse to follow the Constitution, we will continue to live under judicial tyranny. I believe a big part of the reason the Dems and the media are after DeLay right now is because of his statements regarding the courts. Looks to me like the Dems are running scared and that can only be a good sign.

+___This included some so-called
conservatives of the libertarian type...they really ought to leave the movement...the Schiavo case was a liymus test for true conservatism.

You are so wrong: "wanted Terri dead."
That is NOT what the discussion was.

That you thought it was, is very illuminating.

Some of the deathists were anti-Terris because they were trying to protect abortion. Their selfishness drove them. Emotions trumped decency.
