Arizona Guard militia plans more aggressive border action

Eyewitness News 4 has learned an armed militia along the border near Douglas may take matters into its own hands this July.

Casey Nethercott, the leader of the group said Friday that he doesn't yet want to go into detail on his plans.

He supports the Minutemen, but his backup plan is a much more aggressive approach.

Nethercott pointed to two black SUV's, saying, "These are armored vehicles. They got quarter-inch steel in them. They'll stop small arms fire and some rifles."

The headquarters of the militia, called the Arizona Guard, sits along the U.S./Mexico border near Douglas, Arizona, in the Southeastern corner of the state.

Pointing again to the vehicles, Nethercott continued, "You'll get killed without them, here's been so many shootouts out here."

So many shootouts, he said, that the back wall is riddled with bullet holes of all sizes from drug smugglers who open fire on the compound; prompting the group's border project, tentatively planned for July 4th.

"When this Minuteman thing is over, if it doesn't work, we're going to come out here and close the border with machine guns," Nethercott said.

Fighting fire with fire, but Cochise County authorities say the Arizona Guard must act by the letter of the law.

"We will make sure we find out about that, and we will regulate him, just like we regulate the Minuteman Project," explained Paul Newman, a County Supervisor for Cochise County.

The Minutemen, who sat and watched the border still Friday, say they don't support a violent solution.

"I think anytime you go to that length to take the law into your own hands, you're asking for trouble," said Chris Simcox, an organizer for the Minuteman Project.

Eyewitness News 4 has learned of several other groups, including one in California and another in Texas, planning to launch their own anti-illegal-immigrant projects soon.

Nethercott is bad news and possibly a bit nuts when you compare his statements above to the story linked below.

Militia leader Casey Nethercott believes the border needs to be controlled; but he's against the upcoming Minuteman Project.

Maybe he is just a publicity hound.

Oh great. Made to order equivalency story for the MSM. They've been trying to depict the Minutemen as violent crackers, now they've got the real thing. Don't look for the news reports to make a distinction.

The advantage of this story is that it deflates the first one.
He sounds like a total crazy.

Agreed, but the nuance (pardon my French) will be lost in the reporting. Look for the MSM to try this spin: "See folks! This guy is nuts - we've been warning you about all these vigilantes on the border!" [pause] "In a related story, the Minutemen continue their uninvited intrusion into the Border Patrol's efforts..." etc. etc. etc.

It's all in how you paint the picture for Joe six-pack.

Look this thing Nethercott is planning is in July and may not even occur. The whole thing may just be a publicity stunt.

Also, Nethercott and the Minuteman Project had a big and public falling out according to the earlier article linked in the first post.

That said, you are correct that if imitators of MMP adopt more confrontational tactics there could be trouble that the media will make the most of.

Whenever you get a guy trying to organize a shootout or something obviously illegal, the odds are that he's a government informant looking to get his bag limit via entrapment.

The way it works is somebody is caught doing something illegal. He is offered a deal: help us make some high-profile arrests, and we'll agree to a plea-bargain or sentence reduction. So if ever you encounter a guy you know who used to be OK, and now he's trying to organize something stupid, you have a pretty good idea as to what happened

Paul Newman, a county supervisor for Chochise County, must be a Democrat as he is taking credit for something that he has had nothing to do with. He claims that he has "regulated" the Minutemen. Too bad, he wasn't a big cheese when 20 million illegals crossed our borders.

Notice how quick the authorites are to curtail the illegal activities of American citizens and will spare no expense in doing so.

Yet, they allow hundreds of thousands of foreign felons engaged in illegal activities to cross the border with impunity every day. Why, because they say it is too expensive to get serious.

To hell with the politicians and the US government, they will not protect this country. To damned worried about votes, the liberal MSM, low paying cheap arse illegal using employers and what Vicente Fox and his Mexican Mafiaso buds might say.

I wonder who in our governemnt are recieving kick backs in this illegal immigrant fiasco??

Good guess. He's also a grandstanding idiot that got busted for pot while driving a county vehicle. (His punishment was the loss of the vehicle.) He TRIED to get the county to regulate the Minutemen, but was shot down. It seems that the county can't do anything to regulate constitutionally protected free apeech. Newman is a joke, but he represents the Bisbee area, which is a haven for throw-backs to the glory days of the 60's.

And there you have it. While I'm not for violence by citizens, I do believe in violence if needed by the government to stop the run for the border.

He is. He won a court battle over his activities, and I'm guessing he now thinks he's in the right.

That's delusional.

I've thought about that too and my guess is that there's going to be a big payoff to all those involved when they get to drill into Mexico's vast oil supply. You KNOW there's going to be a huge payoff so great that it's worth them destroying the US over. That's all it could be.
