I'm in San Diego on Army business. Rode from DFW with a Lady Marine, a PFC, with her single ribbon (National Defense Service Medal) and her "gong" (Rifle qualification device). Of course the combination of circumstances made me think of you, and of TC.

I bragged a bit on you to her. That thing about being the guidon bearer at the dedication of the replica Iwo Jima Memorial.

She looked to be 18-20. She was headed for Camp Pendleton. Had enough baggage for three Marines. (Two big suitcases, a big backpack, and two duffles, stuffed to the gills). She didn't know how she was getting to Pendleton, but I figured "she's a Marine, she'll overcome, adapt, and get it done".

How kind of you, El Gato!
You said, "guidon bearer at the dedication of the replica Iwo Jima Memorial."

Actually, our statue on the Parade Deck at Parris Island came first, every dime of the cost paid for by MARINES.
It was the sculptor's prototype, after that doing the one in Washington, D.C.

You shoulda known the Marines are first in most things..:))

As for being resourceful, our "can do" attitude does equip us for our lifetime.
