A Few Prayers for Texas Cowboy!!
The Horse's Mouth | 08-Apr-05 | Tom Eaker

Prayers for TexasCowboy!

TexasCowboy has been using his hip injury as an excuse to prevent his friends from shooting his new riot gun.

Well some of us offered to take a look at it for him and he decided both a proffesional and sober opinion might make more sense.

So he found a coupon and now he is going to let some old saw-bones cut on him.

Probably a better idea than letting us do it, but a few folks feelings are still hurt!

Please all say a prayer for our Cowboy that he is back in the saddle again real soon.

I've never had a kidney removed, but walking around within 24 hours seems pretty aggressive. I'd want to let the wounds fuse a bit before beginning the calisthentics.

Maybe Faith meant "inhalation" therapy?

Nope.

Physical therapy.

REALLY wore him out too. When I spoke to him at lunch time he told me that it was pretty tough work.

Buck up, laddie. Like Red Green says, "We're all in this together, and we're pullin' for ya."

I'm sure they know what they're doing, but it's got to be tough to sit up, much less get out of bed. To put it bluntly, it hurts like hell. On top of that, your knees feel wobbly and you've noticed that hospital food apparently comes from Hell's Cafeteria, Inc.

If the TexasCowboy said it was tough, he means it.

Reminds me of 1974 when my husband had his second spinal (neuro-not ortho) surgery. The first was in 1966 at the Naval Hospital in Charleston for 3 ruptured discs, and he was active and exercised and able to return to work; and then go to Southeast Asia and combat.

In civilian life, he became a retail store manager, not supposed to lift heavy things - but a load of fertilizer came in and no one else to offload it - yep - ruptured one of the 3 again.

The surgeon in Stuart, Florida, though, had been in the military and was a real expert - found the first surgery had been badly botched, removing all kinds of scar tissue - but after Recovery, Bernie was placed in a room with an elderly gentleman who wasn't one -- senile, and kept leaping around the room hitting things!
He was so afraid the fellow would hit HIM, he demanded he be moved to another room, and in the a.m. when the physical therapist came to get him up, he did it on his own - came home on the 3rd day, and was back at work in 5 days!

He was motivated, preserving his best possible condition and his job!

"REALLY wore him out too. When I spoke to him at lunch time he told me that it was pretty tough work."

I'm sure it was really hard on him, Eaker. "Physical terrorists" -- the only good kind -- get paid to hassle patients. Thing is, movement is the only good way to circumvent issues like clots, pneumonia, and whatever other benefits his doctor wants him to gain.
I'm not an expert on the innerworkings of TC, but it's occurred to me that PT also gives him an outlet for all his strengths, as well as his commitment to recovery. Which, I am sure, is outstanding and will well exceed everyone's expectations!
Go get 'em, TC! Many prayers and hugs to you from Kingwood AND EVERYWHERE ELSE!

(a spinal cord injury)

We call it Pain and Torture ;-) The Therapists ,we figured, always went to the same school....run by the Marquis de Sade.

You are right on the mark---it's a very good sign!
Just don't let the Cowboy overdo it!

Thanks for keeping the candle burnen here Eaker. The updates are appreciated.

I just last year spend 10 days in the hospital with a friend (24/7). He was diagnosed and given 6 months. Two months ago and many months past his six months he was told they can no longer find any trace of the problem. He's feeling fine, working in his carreer again, and as usual a tough as nails softie. At 76 that ain't too bad.

Moral of my story...their estimates aren't worth much and tough as nails softies bounce real well.

TC: We're with ya as you can see.

Prayers continue.

It so happens as I entered this room, a certain Dirty Rat Chaser (initials BG) was sauntering out, a smug look on her face!

Curious, this is what I found posted prominently upon YOUR THREAD, TC and EAKER!!!

I hope those are supervised therapy sessions, or the hospital could be short a few people. ;-)

Thank goodness you are getting better COB! Hugs and kisses to you.
