Israel was at war with Egypt at the time. It's been long acknowledged as an operation that shouldn't have happened, and if I'm not mistaken it brought down the then current Israeli government. It's somewhat telling that after nearly six decades of continuous warfare, one has to go back 50 years to paint Israel a terrorist state and establish an equivalency between Israel and palestinian terror. Then again, there's always Jenin.
