He confessed. Would an innocent man confess and accept life imprisonment for a crime he didn't commit? Now they need to prosecute all the folks that aided and abetted him for 10 years.

Well, in my very weak strawman, yes, if there was lots of other worse stuff they could charge him with. Y'know, you plead guilty to these very public and embarrassing cases for us, and we don't charge you with 400 counts for the child porn we found in your backpack.

All of this, of course, is sheer whimsical speculation from Friday afternoon boredom...
