Could be the woman's trying to make a name for herself as some sort of "authority."

Liz, would it be rude of me to ask how you are so knowledgable about art? Clearly your interest is strong.

Several and varied reasons-----intellectual curiosity and gratification, and genes, to name a few.

As much as I love David, the Pieta is to me his greatest work.

My favorite script is Carolingian. I like a nice half-uncial as well.

OK, you're on the art ping list, thanks.

One of my figure drawing teachers thinks that Michaelangelo's drawings of women are just guys, with breasts added on.

I have to look and see if I think she's right. Clearly that's not the case with his Pieta, though. Agreed that it's his best.

I'm going to try starting a freeper art gallery thread. Anyone who would like to exhibit their work there, would you please let me know and I'll start a ping list for that as well.

"One of my figure drawing teachers thinks that Michaelangelo's drawings of women are just guys, with breasts added on."

A lot of art historians have made that same assessment. Another (and more politically correct) theory is that Michelangelo's women were modeled after women who were actually working in the marble quarries at the time. There is some documentation to support the fact that women did work there; however, there's nothing I'm aware of any more substantial supporting this supposition than the fact that yes, women did work in the quarries and presumably, were pretty well muscled. As such, there's a pretty good chance Mich. would have seen them.....

Sam, please put me on the list to participate in the freeper art gallery. I started my watercolor class last week and really enjoyed it. The two hours was over before I knew it - so I think that's a good sign. I will need help with how to post images of my paintings.
