(One of it's most compelling tenets is Catholicism's acknowledgement of individual free will.)

Fra Angelico (c. 1387-1455) was beatified by John Paul II who also named him patron saint of artists.
Here's an illuminated missal page from early in his career depicting the glorification of St. Benedict (note that Fra Angelico was a brother of the Benedictine order):

Here's another manuscript initial from Angelico's early days...

I actually prefer Berninis David to Michelangelos. But Michelanglos Pieta in St. Peters is maybe the most beautiful (object anyway) thing Ive ever seen.

In very general terms Michelangelo and Bernini's Davids represent the ideals of calm rationality and stasis vs. frenetic emotion and dynamism....
...But I'm sure you considered that thoroughly before making the rash decision to post that for everyone to read....lol...
To: Joe 6-pack
Is that a fancy way of saying that Mikes David looks chilled out and Bernis looks mad? If so then I agree.

One can only marvel at the concept, technique, and execution of these miniature works of art.

"One can only marvel at the concept, technique, and execution of these miniature works of art." To truly appreciate them, you have to try executing one...from stretching and sanding the vellum, grinding the pigments, (I generally cheat and use brushes made by someone else...), laying the gold and painting (then starting the calligraphy, although, the miniature painting and scriptwork were frequently left to two different artists). No wonder Fra Angelico gave it up for fresco!!

Also think of the discomfort of Michaelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel on his back, on scaffolding........aside from the artist exerting his genius, that is.

That Fra Angelica is excellent. I could have used him in my sign business!
