"Hell, if they'll cross Big Bend, we want 'em." --...family values don't stop at the Rio Grande." - George W. Bush
>"And what is wrong with that?Immigrants are among the most industrious people of the nation and have always been so."<
-ILLEGAL immigration is encouraged with statements like that one by President, (then Governor) Bush. Guest worker programs are viewed by illegals, as AMNESTY, regardless of what politicians want to name the program.
Almost 5 years into his Presidency, ILLEGAL immigration is at an all time high, with an estimated 3.5 million "sneaking" into the country last year, mostly from across the Mexican border. We have no identifiable immigration policy.
There is plenty of evidence that our "border" is broken.
While I support President Bush, I'll be damned if I'm gonna be his rah-rah-rah cheerleader, especially after that "vigilante" statement. A president who calls law abiding U.S. citizens in lawn chairs "vigilantes" for reporting illegal border jumpers, using cell phones and binoculars; deserves plenty of criticism from his constituents.
Many of the MMP folks and their supporters are Bush voters, as am I.
...But if you want to deny that unmitigated, ILLEGAL immigration is a serious problem for our country, then I don't want to waste any more time discussing it with you.
"A nation without borders is not a nation."~ Ronald Reagan
Take care.
But if you want to deny that unmitigated, ILLEGAL immigration is a serious problem for our country, then I don't want to waste any more time discussing it with you. Your contention that illegal immigration is a problem is a given, that is not the issue that we are discussing.
We are discussing means to deal with it.
I have yet to hear from those critical of the President a rational means of getting control of our borders (both of them).
