The Minutemen Will Make A Fool Of President Bush
GDO Online ^ | 4/8/05

President Bush has called the Minutemen, who are now patrolling the U.S.-Mexican border:"vigilantes." I suppose that Bush believes anyone who wishes to help enforce our laws and maintain U.S. sovereignty is a vigilante. If our president had not abdicated his responsibility in this matter, the Minuteman Project would not exist. However, he did and they are doing a great job!

Despite the erroneous propaganda perpetuated by the liberal media, the ACLU, the Mexican government, and even our president, the Minutemen are not a group of wild-eyed racists--with bloodlust in their hearts. They are retired police officers, former military men, laborers, businessmen, moms, and dads, in short--they are a cross section of America. The only difference between these Americans and most of us, is the fact that they are willing to sacrifice their time and are even willing to put themselves in harm's way. They like most of us, are fed up with our government's lack of interest in enforcing our borders.

Much has been made of the fact that many of the Minutemen volunteers carry firearms. They do not chase down illegals with guns drawn. They are carrying weapons for self-defense purposes only. They do not apprehend suspects. They are simply operating as the eyes and ears of the incredibly under-staffed U.S. Border Patrol. The area along the Arizona border with Mexico (where the Minutemen are stationed) has become a very violent sector, filled with Latin American drug smugglers. Perhaps, we should remind the left that we as U.S. citizens, still have the right to bear arms.

The Minutemen have taken on the responsibility of spotting and reporting anyone seen, illegally crossing the border. Period.

The Project's duties were well described by Minuteman spokesman Mike McGarry this weekend, he said : "You observe them, report them, and get out of the way."

This past weekend saw the first patrols of the Minutemen, which yielded several arrests of illegal aliens. On Saturday, volunteers spotted and reported sightings of illegal crossings. Their actions resulted in 18 arrests.

As of Tuesday (three days after patrols began), the Minutemen were responsible for aiding in the arrest of 176 illegal aliens. These numbers will continue to rise and by the end of April, this dedicated group of men and women will have done their country a great service. With every illegal alien who is apprehended, President Bush looks a bit more foolish and impotent.

Some of your suggestions have merit.

Probably the greatest problem is that the illegals have something to obtain in the US.

The welfare system and jobs should be closed to those who do not have US citizenship.

Yet, it is not the Mexican border that poses the greatest security threat, but the Canadian one.

The Canadian's allow anyone into their nation and they can just walk off and into the US.

Now, I would be hesitant to take Bush's public statements as being indicative of what he really intends to do.

He has to keep good relations with both nations and still deal with this complex problem of keeping illegals out.

We all saw the importance of high vote turnout last November. If Republican candidates enrage part of their base and lose future elections, they will have only themselves to blame.

That will be thin consolation as we all suffer from the electoral consequences of those stay-at-home "conservatives"--"Not my fault we got a socialist for president, I didn't vote because the Republican sucked on immigration."

Right.

I couldn't agree more. I don't agree with voters who stay at home because they are either a "single issue voter", or are not enthusiastic about the candidate. I remember all too well the presidencies of Carter and Clinton, but I can't force the voter types mentioned above to go and vote. I maintain that the responsibility for this lies with our Republican elected officials. How hard of a concept is "DON"T PISS OFF YOUR BASE" for Republican politicians?

Well, then you not looking at terrorism as being the chief issue in illegal immigration.

I agree that we do need to get control of both our borders.

What I don't agree with is dividing the GOP over it,when there is no alternative to them.

That is exactly what the Democrats want, a divided GOP, and do you think they are going to defend our borders?

Because both parties are trying to get in good with the hispanic vote in the future so nothing will be done. They are looking at millions of voters but they are not thinking of the millions they are putting off. I just can't get over why,why the secuirty of our nation in the time of terroism is not a big deal. Damn I can't stand any of them. It only takes one time for someone to bring over one bomb across the border. Then after millions are dead who will these jackasses blame?

"Key word, ELECTED. Remind those jokers in Washington this"

Unfortunately, this is the kind of folk getting elected these days:

The Republicans must be sent a message. The only thing they unrstand is losing their elected office.

We can survive a Democrat administration. We did before.

This is the voter form of term limits that you'll never see enacted.

If a vote for a Minuteman takes away from the Repiblicans and sees a Democrat elected so be it.

"The big stink is only because this is making the 'powers that be' look very, very bad and they can't stand the heat."

- No, the big stink is that the so called "Minutemen" consist of several hundred unarmed retirees with nothing better to do in their idle time. These paunch challenged patriots couldn't waddle more that a mile without oxygen assist.

If you want to send a message to the Republicans do so on the primary level.

Electing Democrats only sets back the attainment of the conservative goals that we are fighting for.
