The Minutemen Will Make A Fool Of President Bush
GDO Online ^ | 4/8/05

President Bush has called the Minutemen, who are now patrolling the U.S.-Mexican border:"vigilantes." I suppose that Bush believes anyone who wishes to help enforce our laws and maintain U.S. sovereignty is a vigilante. If our president had not abdicated his responsibility in this matter, the Minuteman Project would not exist. However, he did and they are doing a great job!

Despite the erroneous propaganda perpetuated by the liberal media, the ACLU, the Mexican government, and even our president, the Minutemen are not a group of wild-eyed racists--with bloodlust in their hearts. They are retired police officers, former military men, laborers, businessmen, moms, and dads, in short--they are a cross section of America. The only difference between these Americans and most of us, is the fact that they are willing to sacrifice their time and are even willing to put themselves in harm's way. They like most of us, are fed up with our government's lack of interest in enforcing our borders.

Much has been made of the fact that many of the Minutemen volunteers carry firearms. They do not chase down illegals with guns drawn. They are carrying weapons for self-defense purposes only. They do not apprehend suspects. They are simply operating as the eyes and ears of the incredibly under-staffed U.S. Border Patrol. The area along the Arizona border with Mexico (where the Minutemen are stationed) has become a very violent sector, filled with Latin American drug smugglers. Perhaps, we should remind the left that we as U.S. citizens, still have the right to bear arms.

The Minutemen have taken on the responsibility of spotting and reporting anyone seen, illegally crossing the border. Period.

The Project's duties were well described by Minuteman spokesman Mike McGarry this weekend, he said : "You observe them, report them, and get out of the way."

This past weekend saw the first patrols of the Minutemen, which yielded several arrests of illegal aliens. On Saturday, volunteers spotted and reported sightings of illegal crossings. Their actions resulted in 18 arrests.

As of Tuesday (three days after patrols began), the Minutemen were responsible for aiding in the arrest of 176 illegal aliens. These numbers will continue to rise and by the end of April, this dedicated group of men and women will have done their country a great service. With every illegal alien who is apprehended, President Bush looks a bit more foolish and impotent.

I think that summation speaks for the vast majority here more or less.

Well done.

***Bush is sleaze.***

President Bush may be a lot of things - but he ain't no sleaze. People like you who think he has to be all things to all people usually have serious shortcomings of your own. You would be so much happier amongst those other Bush-Bashers...i.e. DU

Talk to your state legislature about enforcing whatever laws are on the books in your state re illegal immigrants and the people who employ them.

Private citizens have no business bearing arms and deciding to become law enforcement -- particularly since the illegals crossing the border are not shooting their way in.

You are so off base on with those two statements I'm amazed that you are able to stand upright at all.

I can't stand upright because I'm doubled up with laughter at all of the ridiculous statements on this thread.

Look, if people's lives are so drama-less that they want to play cowboys and banditos in the Southwest, I guess there's no way to stop 'em. But I'm not going to take seriesly the claims of some that they need firearms for protection from those crossing the border. The claim that this is an armed invasion -- as if the Wehrmacht has crossed the border headed for Paris -- is just not credible and not believed by the vast majority of the electorate.

All it will take is one nut or trigger-happy fool shooting some illegal in the desert to discredit the entire campaign against illegal immigration. It's not worth it.

You are either not aware of or reject the Second Amendment. So we've established that you're no conservative.

You quoted me out of context. People have the right to keep and bear arms; they don't have the right to engage in armed patrols as some kind of voluntary untrained cops. Those that are against law enforcement by government and favor private citizens engaging in those functions are effectively anarchists. I don't consider anarchists to be conservatives.

While that is true, it is not the issue.

What is the issue is that there HAVE been home break-ins, rapes, murders and general thuggery by illegal immigrants and border crossers (some armed) and there is no reason these people should have to stand for that.
They have the right to keep and bear arms as well as the right to protect their lives and property. You may not like it but they have the right. 'Militia' does not mean the local constabulary nor the United States Armed Forces. It means us. The rest....and we will defend or G-d given rights against all interlopers.

The Minutemen may have some yahoos in their midst but on the whole they are doing the right thing.

It's a matter of syntax I suppose, the President actually said he "was not in favor of vigilante action". Perhaps he thought they would actually be out there shooting illegals, and of course, he made that statement during Fox's visit.

I agree with all of you in being disappointed that the President hasn't done anything about the borders. Hopefully he will see how well the MinuteMen are doing and we can get him to start doing something.

I find it very sad when a thread virtually calling our President a fool is not pulled. I'm sure the folks at DU are loving this.

You should have seen the threads where FReepers were calling Bush a Nazi and comparing him to Hitler.

Me think's the Minutemen are going to teach a lot people how to do it.   What's wrong with having 2000 eyes, instead of 500?   I still can't figure out why the MSM is trying to find fault in them.   Just an idea...Our government could temporarily deputize them?   Doing so would have better control, and re establish lost credibility until more Border Patrol are in place. Oooops, there I go thinking clear again. Huh!

Who said I didn't like it or even agree with it?

We all have the right to use deadly force to protect our lives. Property, no. I don't think if someone steals your car you have a right to kill them -- although some states do allow this.

The Minutemen aren't protecting their own lives and property -- if they were, they'd stay home. They are going out looking for bad guys while wearing guns. That's foolish. If they want to be coastwatchers, that's good. Patrol unarmed -- great.

I just hope nothing bad happens involving these guys.

Hence, the RATs will find another Perot as a 3rd party candidate.

They need another megalomaniac who actually believes the entire country is in love with him and see him as a savior. The only one of those floating around right now is Tom Tancredo. Of course if he runs a bunch of FReepers would have orgasms but the end result would be Hillary becoming President.

Consider the source of the "sleaze" comment. It's from someone who thinks President Bush is part of a almost 70 year old conspiracy to destroy the United States and establish a one world government.

I didn't mean to belittle your plight living so close to the point of conflict. My only point is, we can achieve our goals without abandoning the party or empowering the opposition.

Your insight can only help bring about a solution if we all stick together. President Bush is a good man, we must continue to open his eyes to the problem without alienating us who demand change from the party.

You would be surprised at how many Mexicans I see in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The all the illegals don't stay in Arizona after crossing the border, they are everywhere.

I was at a gas station yesterday and a whole van full pulled in trying to get gas and something to drink, they couldn't even communicate with the clerk to make payment.

I believe in Free Republic and those like it who push the agenda of the conservative voice. Change will happen but to those already emotionally stressed about the issues it will not seem fast enough. Keep the faith and don't give up or they win.

Again, my apologizes to you FRiend.

Yep, we have the right to bear arms, even though we have to jump through hoops buying and registering them. And we have the right to protect ourselves and our property.

Thanks goodness I live in Texas, my husband has a Concealed Cary License and when he is out of town I keep a gun nearby.

The Santa Fe city council, Albuquerque city council and New Mexico state legislature have resolved to not help CIS (formerly INS).

And look who is the governor, the guy with the Mexican mother.

The writing was on the wall with NAFTA.

What are President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard V. Cheney saying about the border?

[. . .crickets. . .]

What are my neighbors saying about it? Hint: It's in Spanish.

Rovian Political Calculus: New Mexican Republicans minus Disenchanted Citizen Republicans equals net gain.

The party may run a candidate in 2008 who genuinely understands American exceptionalism--or it may run another new world order candidate who understands capital first, country second.

Hitlery Rod'Em will have all those snakes on her head mesmerizing the weak-willed, so it behooves the future of freedom for Ken Mehlman and Elizabeth Dole to buy a clue.

The country is being boiled like a frog by mexicanization and islamization.

Whether it awakens in time--but first, the latest on the Michael Jackson septic tank trial.

We can legally, openly pack here in Arizona. My daughter has a license to pack in Florida, and the laws just drastically changed there to use a weapon for self defense. Yes, in spite of the left-wing (Chuckie Cheese Shummer)pundits attempts to take away our real rights, in certain parts of the U.S., we do have 2nd Amendment Rights.

Wow - what a nice response. I didn't feel belittled by you, just ...what's the right word? frustrated, I guess, by the decades of more of the same. And you're right - when one wants change NOW, it's hard to hear to just wait and watch it happen slowly. But the change is in the right direction - 10 years ago, nobody even spoke of the illegal immigration problems. Rush has been vocal about it - and hopefully that will have an effect on TPTB.

I think I expected more of President Bush because of the awesome job he's done on everything else. I know he did campaign on his guest worker program, but I was hoping he was joking and couldn't possibly be series! But, he's a man of his word, in all things.

So, what do you recommend to get the RNC's attention? I know the MMP is doing a fantastic job of it, but what else can a lone individual do (the force of one)? Withholding my vote and banging my head against the wall is all I can think of tonight....
