Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey is appalled that a serial killer's lurid, videotaped confession to police is being sold on the Internet by the man's father.
Randolph "Duke" White, father of self-professed serial killer Richard Paul White, is marketing two volumes of his son's confession at $39.95 apiece.
The DVDs detail White's brutal murders of Annaletia Maria Gonzales and Victoria Turpin, whose bodies were buried in the back yard of his former Park Hill home, and of his friend Jason Reichardt.
"I personally find it disgusting and offensive," Morrissey said.
Gonzales' father, Larry, said he was deeply angered by the DVDs. "It just brings back the wounds, the memories, the hurt," he said.
But there is no evidence that the younger White is receiving money from the transactions, said Morrissey, whose office investigated the DVD sales late last year. That would have subjected the elder White to the "Son of Sam" laws, which prevent convicted felons from making money off of their crimes.
The law was named after New York serial killer David Berkowitz, known as the "Son of Sam," who attempted to sell his story.
But Morrissey said the existence of the White DVDs for commercial purposes could mean it's time to revisit the law.
"Maybe it's time for legislators to look into these issues with the current state of how information is disseminated," Morrissey said.
He initially hesitated to comment on the DVDs, saying he "didn't want to be part of fueling the fire. I think it just draws attention to it."
The Web site advertising the recorded confession says some of the proceeds will go to the families of Whites' victims. But the families of Gonzales and Turpin knew nothing about it."As far as I'm concerned, he's just exploiting my daughter and the other victims," said Larry Gonzales, from his home in Vermont. "That DVD shouldn't be out there."
He said he had heard that the rest of the profits will go to White's nieces and nephews.
"Who is going to pay for my granddaughter's education when she grows up," he said of Annaletia Gonzales' 10-year-old daughter.
It's not clear how Randolph White obtained the taped confession.
White was sentenced to three life sentences for killing Gonzales, Turpin and Reichardt.
He also confessed to killing prostitutes he picked up on Colfax Avenue, one of whom was found in a shallow grave in Costilla County.
The first volume of White's confession is available for sale, and the second is scheduled to be released this summer. The Web site promises "an excellent example of professional police interrogators at work."
"Denver serial killer R.P. White's confession is brutal and disturbing and parents are strongly cautioned that it should not be watched by young children," the Web site states. "There is a big difference between fiction and the real thing and this is not fiction."
I suppose there needs to be a story like this every few months. Where the victims get the shaft by the convicted or worse the father of the convicted.
If there is anything that can be done to make sure he does not receive any money for this project just give me a shout, do not know what I can do but this is just WRONG.
Now, the lawnuts have got to pass another law to hem us in further.

A self-professed serial killer was indicted Thursday on charges of kidnapping, sexually assaulting and murdering two women whose bodies were found buried in the back yard of a Denver house where he once lived.
Richard White, previously charged in another slaying, also was charged Thursday with kidnapping and sexually assaulting three other women and trying to kill one of them.
White, 31, was charged in January with first-degree murder in the Sept. 7 shooting death of Jason Reichardt, 27, of Aurora. He has said that shooting was accidental.
While being questioned in Reichardt's death, White told police he had killed five prostitutes across the state since 1998, buried two in his back yard and scattered the bodies of the others in Costilla and Otero counties in southern Colorado.
Police found the bodies of Victoria Lynn Haskay, 34, and Annaletia Maria Gonzales, 27, in September. No bodies have been found in Costilla or Otero county despite extensive searches.
Gonzales was probably strangled, police said. Little information has been released about Haskay.
The 53-count indictment against White includes first-degree felony murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and other charges. He was being held in the Arapahoe County Jail.

Little wonder that this contemptible 'man' who is marketing this dvd confession has a serial killer son. Where is the justice for the victim and his family? This is the kind of case some lawyer should snap up 'pro bono'. How can someone be permitted to profit from murder this way? Even the despicable 'snuff' films are not legal and the murderers (theoretically) sought for prosecution. There must be some recourse to stop this sick twisted freak from profiting from the dvd. Our forefathers must be spinning in their graves to think that our 'laws' would so benefit the criminal and deny justice to the victim...

The Denver Post"I'm not a remorseless jerk," killer told police Monday, April 04, 2005 - Serial killer Richard Paul White told homicide detectives that although voices coerced him to kill women, he was otherwise a "very nice" person. "I cried with them. I'm not a remorseless jerk," White told two Aurora police officers during a rambling confession Sept. 10, 2003. "I'm kind of unique in that respect. ... The only reason I did these things was because I'm sick." For hours beginning at 3:30 a.m., White, wearing camouflage, tried to convince detectives he was a humane killer. What came across instead - in horrific detail - were the desperate measures his victims took to preserve their lives. Bound and stripped, the women endured multiple rapes and near-strangulations without fighting back. "People say you die real quick," White said about strangling his first victim. "It took 10 minutes." White didn't confess until he was arrested by a Douglas County SWAT team in the Pike National Forest two days after he shot his friend Jason Reichardt on Sept. 7, 2003. White's father, Randolph "Duke" White, gave The Denver Post a DVD copy of the confession he produced and is selling for $39.95, plus a $6.50 handling fee. During the interview, White becomes exasperated. "Can I please have a cigarette?" White asked. "I'm giving the world to you guys today. I really am." White then described trolling Colfax Avenue almost every day under what he said was the influence of an uncontrollable compulsion. He often eagerly drew maps on a yellow notepad of burial sites and murder locations. Matter-of-factly, White told officers how in January 2002 he picked up a tall, "dark-skinned" woman who was blind in her right eye, drove her to his house at 2885 Albion St. and strangled her. White said he knew he was fated to kill her because of a tattoo he had of a similar woman. The woman's skeleton was found near his father's home in Mesita in southern Colorado. White then described trading sex for crack with Annaletia Gonzales, 27. He held her for a day, repeatedly raped her and handcuffed her to him while he slept. She and Victoria Turpin, 32, were discovered buried in White's backyard. White, who is serving multiple life terms in prison, described killing three other women. Currently at Limon Correctional Facility, he declined an interview. White's victims begged him to spare them, he said. "I told (Annaletia) we had to pray, and we prayed and we prayed and we prayed," White said. "And I kept praying for God to show me a different way out, any other way than to kill her, but he didn't tell me." White told police he came to hate what he had become. It stole his peace of mind, tormented his conscience and sapped his energy, he said. "There's no quality of life. There's no joy. There's no happiness," he said. I thought the son of sam laws were struck down (1st Amendment or dormant commerce clause issues).
I'm not that concerned about the idiot selling these. I'm more worried about the level of demand for this product.
There are events that I just will never understand. That he took the life of other's should have given him a cell on death row. But NOPE. Instead, he is getting at least 2 square meals, access to his father, constant reminder to the victims and he receives medical care.
I had best stop or I might just become physically ill.

Thank you so much for doing that research. You know with the number of folks on FR, if we were to ban together I am certain we could do something to bring this schmuck to both their knees so they never see a red dime from the DVDs.
I have no idea how but as I said with the many we certainly have the brain power to come up with something.
Son Of Sam laws need to be in affect. Nobody not even the father deserves to profit off of the brutal murder's his son with reckless regard of life has committed.

Hmmm.. I see some phone numbers of companies who are profiting from this slimeball... maybe a call or two (maybe three) expressing our distaste for leveraging the misery of the victims for profit. This sewage doesn't need the sewer pipe that Yahoo is providing
There is only one thing you can do where the son of sam laws were judged unconstitutional and that is to sue the perp so no proceeds (book profits,etc)may ever go to them..but the perp's family seems to have 1st amendment rights..I suppose they could be sued in this case for pain and suffering.
It is despicable to profit over a son's crime.
