Exactly if the Republicans were as amoral as the dems, they would just run a candidate who says they are against too much Mexican immigration. Then do nothing on it when elected.

Good point. And trust me no Republican will go saying oh yes I am with open borders, and they will be "more believable" than any Democrat when they talk about doing something with the borders. If some people think that Hillary can out right the Republican presidential candidate in 2008 (no matter who) on the rhetoric of illegal immigration issue, they have to check with clinic for insane delusion.
