Scott Rasmussen has announced that he will begin to track Hillary Clinton's extreme makeover as she attempts to soften her liberal image and move towards the political center. If his latest "Hillary Meter" poll is any indication, Clinton is having success.
The latest numbers according to Rasmussen Reports:
--Currently, 43% of Americans view the former First Lady as politically liberal. That's down from 51% at the end of January.
--At the same time, the number who view Mrs. Clinton as politically moderate has increased from 27% to 34%.
--32% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote FOR Hillary Clinton.
---37% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote AGAINST her.
-- 26%) say it depends upon who she runs against.
Rasmussen notes that she still has only a 44% approval rating with 40% disapproval, and more women would vote against her, than for her.
Hillary is re-inventing herself as an anti-abortion, gun loving, military hawk with each passing day. Oh--and expect the God references to flow from Hillary as often as she can work them in. The extreme makeover is in full swing.
This is a brilliant idea by the veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen.
You are way overrating Hillary Clinton power.
JFK in 1960 of course. You are ignoring reality if you think Hillary doesn't have a chance. Kerry was the archtype of the "northeastern liberal (socialist)" and came within 20 electoral votes of being elected. Hillary will be a much more formidable candidate.
Hillary will be running against a GOP vacuum in terms of incumbency and GOP candidates with national name recognition save for McCain and Giuliani, both of whom don't enjoy Conservative support. We can use all of the history we want, but we must deal with the reality in 2008.
Hear me now, believe me later. She will certainly do better than Kerry.
You make good points. That's why we are here, FR mission statement. I am looking forward to her candidacy. We have nothing to fear, but criminals themselves. Identify the anti-freedom criminals. Bring it on Hillary. Thanks kabar. Off to work.
You were saying the same about Kerry when he was running.
What health problems has Hillary been having?
I am not aware of any, except for the obvious mental disease.
No way. Just the opposite. I said Kerry had no chance because he had so much baggage and was the most liberal senator from the most liberal state in America. I was very surprised that he made it so close. I certainly did my part in terms of contributions to the GOP and SBVFT as well as attending rallies, sending letters to the MSM, and working as a GOP poll watcher.
I will do whatever I can to defeat Hillary, but she is a much more formidable candidate than Kerry and the GOP won't have the luxury of an incumbent. Anyone who dismisses Hillary as a candidate doesn't understand politics.
Kerry was a fool who thought he could run as Rambo with a Jane Fonda past. The Swift Vets caught him on that, especially about three Purple Hearts with barely a scratch.
Hillary is smart. Very smart. When Rove starts in on her independent voters will just roll their eyes and say, "there go the Clinton-haters again". Especially if she is smart enough to Sistah Souljah the sodomites.
I see a very, very good openning for a fiscal liberal, cultural conservative. That is a combination that will enrage the Deaniacs but will cement minority support.
Your analysis of Hillary's advantages was excellent. And add to that the intense bond between the Clintons and the black community. The 90's were good times for blacks. Blacks never warmed to latte liberal Kerry. Hillary will get 90%+ of the minority vote.
But what triggered the massive turnout was sodomite marriage as an issue.
What if Hillary Sistah Souljah's the sodomites (as Bill advised Kerry to do) ? After all, aren't most cultural conservatives former New Deal Democrat economic populists who would respond well to a campaign that pushed anti-illegal immigrant, anti-outsourcing, protectionist themes ?
You are exactly right. The Clintons invented triangulation. Hillary will move to the center on these issues as welll as on national security (she sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee and has made high highly visits to Iraq and Afghanistan). It was husband Bill who signed the DOMA. If Hillary can siphon off some votes from cultural conservatives or at least dampen their turnout, she will win. Hillary is positioning herself now, e.g., her speech at the 7th Day Adventist confab, and her recent pronouncements on abortion and the need for reconciliation with pro-life advocates.
As you correctly noted, Hillary will get more than 90% of the black vote and more importantly, a greater turnout than Kerry, which will be key in states like Florida and Ohio. She will also get a bigger share of the Latino vote if Richardson is her running mate.
Anyone who overrate Hillary Clinton thinking he is being realistic does not understand politics either.
Hillary Clinton is an extreme liberal woman and she cannot hide form it. The 2004 election taught us that no one can fool the majority of voters by changing their true colors, people will know what is fake and what it is real and they are very good in seeing flip flops. If you think that Kerry was killed by his flip flops then you have seen nothing yet regarding Hillary Clinton.
America is not yet ready for a woman President, and for sure America is not ready for a left wing liberal woman like Hillary Clinton to be President. Hillary will do terribly among women voters, worse than any other Democrat before her. The majority of women do not like to see another woman in the most powerful post in history of mankind, the Presidency of the United States, and that is the woman nature. I know a bunch of young liberal women from Massachusetts who despise Hillary Clinton and cannot stand her, and they are ready to vote for a Republican like Guliani if both a the respective candidates of their party.
What we are going to see from some conservative corners, some on FR like yourself, is the overrating of Hillary Clinton beyond belief, and she they will keep telling us that she is the most formidable Democrat candidate to ever run for President, and on and on and on. We have seen all the gloom and doom scenarios in 2004 coming from some conservatives regarding Kerry and the Democrats crushing us, and we all know what happened.
In 2008 if Hillary run for President, we will see the "clowning" of American politics. Some people on this thread already made comments about her screeching voice and her laughable attempt to move the crowds.
Write on a piece of paper: "Hillary Clinton is a joke".
Is that counting the DUmmie trolls?
Where did you get your data? Perhaps we should ask the Moderators to put up a poll with the same question as Rasmussen (or if that is something we can do, how does one do that?):
For Hillary ___
Against Hillary ____
Depends on who the Pubs run ____
--32% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote FOR Hillary Clinton.
---37% say that if she is the Democratic nominee, they will definitely vote AGAINST her.
-- 26%) say it depends upon who she runs against.
Looks like if the Pubs don't screw up with another Bob Dull, it will be a landslide against the HildaBeast (73% to 32%
I think they were just sarcastically including all the anti-bush people.
