Any magma that comes up through the hole will cool and solidify, becoming part of the rock, long before it reaches the surface, relax. Well that's good news. What about gases being released? Anything nasty down there?
This does sound pretty cool, anyway. And amazing as well.

What about gases being released? Anything nasty down there? well, don't volcanoes spew out deadly sulfur gases?
and like heavyrunner says - these materials are already brought to the surface, courtesy of volcanoes.
Sounds like another grant bucks boondoggle

What about gases being released?Maybe this is the new approach to space travel. We don't have to build a space ship, just send Earth to the moon with the resulting megajet. Then our scientists can reach over and take samples to find out just what kind of cheese is green.
