There must be a middle way somewhere here.

One would think - yet the established U.S. institutional order has poured millions into pursuing the elusive fatal vector of marijuana, while spurning all attempts to perform actual scientific research on this plant to see what therapeutic potential exists.

Such an attitude is symptomatic of modern state cultism, in which the paranoias of the bureaucracy become the accepted wisdom of the people.

All this is unworthy of a free people, imo.

No. It is symptomatic of a successful business enterprise not to dump money down the marijuana research rathole, since anything they would come up with will simply be circumvented by people who will roll their own as their "poor man's medicine".
