Heh, yes, it was a great game!
My other favorite game for the 2600 was an Activision product... the one where you were in the jungle, jumping on crocodile heads and swinging over vines. I'm not saying it had the long list of qualities that Adventure had, but it had great graphics (for the 2600) and was just great fun for me.

Q,
That was "Pitfall"- a personal fave.
A few years ago a friend and I were cracking each other up imitating that game's sound effects: "enh" "ehn an ehn na".

Pitfall was fun too, I enjoyed the croc/gator heads when they opened up their mouths in unison, they were The Borg even before the Borg came along. FYI, the secret is to stand on their eyes, even when they open their mouths, you will not fall in. One thing that always got me were the fires set by some deranged Boy Scout (no offense to the sane Boy Scouts out there B-)) and the scorpions underground.

The Atari 2600 was more than just a game-playing console to me. It convinced me what I should pursue when I grew up. How? A very good friend of mine didn't have an Atari because his parents said that hooking that up to the TV would break it. Anyway, he was left-handed and couldn't play very well with a joystick made for the right hand. I figured out a way to rewire that joystick so the orange button would be on the right.
It worked. Not bad for a 10-year old, eh? I knew what I wanted to be from that day forward.
