None have been built in years - only updated. However, they have a good safety record. Weather crashes have been a problem. Lost one in Iraq fully loaded about 16 months ago in bad weather.

My hubby's unit lost one in Iraq from an RPG...lost the crew and 18 troops heading for R&R....

They are about to new-build some of the CH-47F. A deal was signed during December 2004. First deliveries are expected by 2006.
