A bar owner withdrew his beer license for a controversial lounge--so why are neighbors still fighting it?
The owner was arrested for giving a minor alcohol during the grand opening for his lounge last Friday. He withdrew the beer license Monday. But neighbors say there's no indication that means the bar will close.
"I don't know what his intentions are from here, but ours is to go forward with this and we'll do whatever we can do to stop it," said Dwight Anderson, who lives next door to "Loose Booties Lounge" on Keel Mountain in Madison County.
Anderson and many of his neighbors on Keel Mountain want to make sure the lounge never sees the light of day. Anderson's building a privacy fence between his home and the bar. His neighbor on the other side of the lounge has her own set of worries.
"My biggest concern is of course my children. My other concern is we are on a mountain and there's going to be drunk drivers going up and down the mountain," said Jennifer Cannon.
Neighbors want Madison County commissioners to shut it down based on zoning regulations. Residents say the property is zoned for homes and not for a business. Loose Booties isn't in the Gurley city limits. The county doesn't have authority over the bar, either--no power for zoning changes, among other things. Some residents have a solution to keep something like this from happening again.
"They have restrictions in the city limits. We've talked about annexing in," said David Myers, a Keel Mountain resident.
We called Tony Bishop, the bar owner, to see if he planned on staying open since he yanked his beer license but he did not return our call.
Dwight Anderson won't wait to find out. He has hired an attorney to shut the business down based on land restrictions.
Well, after seeing your picture of the horse getting his "Noogies" removed, this seemed appropiate........ : )
I don't think I want to go in a place called Loose Booties now, but I might have when I was younger. ;~D
I agree, and what a name for a lounge. : )
Loose Booties! I love it! How do these people dream up these names?!
Well, I could post jpegs of a couple examples but this is a family site, ya know......... ;-)
