ROGERS, Ark. -- Wal-Mart is "good for America" and the barrage of criticism against the company is an effort to protect the status quo in retailing, President and CEO Lee Scott said Tuesday in a sharp attack on organized labor and retail rivals.
Addressing about 50 journalists gathered at the company's media conference -- it first ever media event Mr. Scott defended its wages and health care plans, criticized by labor groups as inadequate, and said that the company is able to save customers big money as it drives costs out of its system.
"Innovation and competition tends to change the status quo," said Mr. Scott, speaking at a hotel in Rogers, a few miles from Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Bentonville headquarters.

I can't remember my college econ 101 but I betcha Milt had something to say about unfair free trade.
I like Sen. Inhoffe, but why would you believe his thoughts are Gospel? Is he smarter than you? Better Informed? I firmly believe that if you were in his place you could do just as well as he does... But that does not make him infallible nor excuse you from doing your own BASIC research. You make broad assumpumtions with no supporting evidence, so what you say is unsupported opinion. You don't like Walmart and believe that company is bad for America... But I cannot understand why, and you haven't explained. Others here seemed to be armed with facts, not opinions.
I admire your standing up to what you believe, I only question your rationale for that. But we can both agree that Sen. Inhoffe is a good guy, yeah.
I have read enough other sites with factual reports about china to make up my own mind. I'm not a robot to anyone.
Read Janes Defense weekly and other various think tank websites. They are all well aware of the chinese threat...and are fearful of the direction it is leading
I'm not picking on just wal mart but also other companies that do business with china and companies that send our propritary knowledge over there without any concern whatsoever.
It is going to come back and bite us one day.
BTW: I have not read any facts from the other side that support their argument why we should do business with china other than we can buy goods cheaper.
You realize, of course, that includes you? You don't lsit any qualifiers. I'm not sure what this says about your arguments...
The way I phrased this has been used for generations to make a point. Of course not all americans are stupid but many read most cannot see the forest through the trees. I would say most americans are unimformed and do have their head up their butts when it comes to this matter.
You are spliting straws BTW.
an added point: It gets scary that more people know Paris Hiltons dogs name than who is the vice pres of the US.
