Given the way Carter has insulted both Presidents Bush and his toadying to dictators, what's amazing is that Jimmah still has the hubris to think Bush would want him along.

Of course, a big part of this is the MSM looking to manufacture some way to bash Bush in connection with the Pope's passing. It's a big deal a sitting president is going to the funeral, an even bigger deal that 3 out of the 5 living Presidents are going. Jimmah can go on his own dime, not the taxpayers.

I guess President Bush figures there's still a chance for the redemption of Clinton's soul. Carter is beyond all hope.

Yep it had crossed my mind too the security implications of this event. This event would represent a staggeringly high value target for the enemy.

Interesting. I wonder why the delegation is limited to five.

Probably so Jimmuh can't go along. LOL

Carter can always buy a ticket on a commercial flight and stand in the crowd with the rest of the little people.

WASHINGTON (Reuters):

Former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton will accompany President Bush to Friday's funeral of Pope John Paul II, but former President Jimmy Carter bowed out after he was told the size of the delegation was limited.

Carter spokesman Jon Moor said the Nobel Peace Prize winner, who was in the White House when John Paul was elected, had "expressed to the White House a desire to attend the pope's funeral."

"He was quite willing to withdraw his request when he was subsequently informed that the official delegation would be limited to just five people, and there were also others who were eager to attend," Moor said Tuesday.

Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, will be honoring the pope "in spirit," he added.

Carter, a Democrat, was a harsh critic of Bush in last year's U.S. election campaign. The White House had no immediate reaction to Carter's statement.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan earlier said the administration had invited Carter to join the delegation but that he would not be going. Carter's spokesman said the decision was not related to the 80-year-old former president's health.

They're going to pretend the Pope really wanted Jimmah there because the Pope (supposedly) and Jimmah both opposed the war.

" I so recall some of Carter's remarks about the current president have been quite unseemly."

And have you noticed that Clinton has said some positive things like the fact that he thinks Bush has very good political instincts, and that he's smart ?

It's funny that the poor sinner, Bill Clinton, has behaved more respectfully towards his successor in office than the holier-than-thou sanctimonious jackass from Georgia.

If I were Bush and I had to pick one of the two, I'd pick Clinton too. Clinton hasn't done much of the weird and wild sniping at the sitting President in the foreign press that Carter has, and honestly, who'd you rather sit and talk with for 7 hours on a plane, Jimmy or Bubba?
That's really not hard, especially if Bubba leaves the wife back home.

"It wasn't immediately clear why former President Carter was not going along as well. McClellan said the White House reached out to him but would not elaborate. A spokesman with his Carter Center in Atlanta, Jon Moore, also would not explain."

The White House managed to book him a 3rd class seat on an Alitalia flight to Rome but expected him to pay for his own ticket?

This is hilarious. Hey Jimmy - your entire Presidency was a national disgrace...

---

Yes it was, I wouldn't let him go either. I would suggest him to go to another Dictator and suck up.

I suspect all delegations will be limited, and in all events, the entire production will be a total security nightmare.
