selective abortions are having other deleterious effects. one "defect" in many cultures (particularly s. korea, china and india) is being female. i was astounded to read a few years back that the male/female ratio in china between ages 15-35 was 1.1 - in a country of 1.5 BILLION people that is on the order of tens of millions of "unmatched" young men. it was largely due to sex-selected abortions and female infantide and abandonment. that is an inherently unstable social situation, and a hostile stance from a geopolitical view (traditionally, excess males have been "war-fodder").
beware people of ANY political persuasion whose language refers to "less-desirable" persons solely on the basis of who they are.
