Except the response was "Ora pro eo" which is "Pray for him." The entire litany was sung in Latin.
Absolutely beautiful today, I again was brought to tears.
Can't believe he's gone.
I know...it was beautiful, wasn't it?
The news shows kept cutting into it, so I printed out the whole thing (BOY there are a lot of Saints!) and the kids and I sang it (in Latin) after supper tonight in honor of His Holiness.
Now..I ain't exactly American Idol material, but even I can chant the Litany pretty much on key.
Regards,
Thank you for posting this..it was beautiful.
And I'm watching it again ... it is compelling .. haunting. God Bless this inspired and extraordinary man .. I always felt he was a living saint, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was canonized in the future. He truly had a two-way dialogue with God.
The singing is called Geregorian Chant that you heard as the Litany of the Saints was sung.
What was the name of the piece directly before the Litany of the Saint? Do you know or does anyone?
I've heard it before at the Abbey, but I cannot put my finger on the name...
As a child attending Catholic school we attended Mass each morning and chanted the replies to the Priest in Latin. It is beautiful and is a form of the Gregorian Chants.
I had just done a search on Gregorian Chants when I came across this thread.
You have VERY lucky kids to have such a blessed parent that would take the time to sing the Litany of Saints with them!! I'm jealous. Our family used to kneel in the living room every night during Lent and say the Rosary....it was a wonderful time.
It was beautiful to hear. Thanks for posting.
Thank you, yes .. I know .. and I'm now kicking myself for not taking a CD by monks when I moved... but I shall find another one.
Ora pro eo ping!
I don't think there is anything prettier to hear. I have heard Chants of Monks in Monasteries and ones of Nuns singing and they are beautiful.
They sound as they must have sounded in Medieval times.
I heard it just a little while ago on CNN. Thanks kindly.
I'll send you to a web site!
Yup, can't get it out of my head either.
I watched the procession of the body of Pope John Paul II from the palatine palace to St Peter's Basilica on EWTN and it was just beautiful! Did you watch it on EWTN? They had the best camera angles. I don't know if Fox showed the whole thing or not. I for one will stay tuned to EWTN instead of the rest of the cable. I want an entirely Catholic perspective on the funeral.
