Is this another media over-hyped issue like Mad Cow disease? Personally I think you have more chance of contracting and dying from the regular flu that goes around every winter instead of Bird flu.

How can countries be stockpiling the vaccine if it isn't being produced?

While I think these stockpile rumors are simply state lies intended to calm people down, I know that some countries actually are stocking up on Tamiflu, which is an antiviral prescription drug.

At least a vaccine that is not publicly acknowledged as being in mass production.
This potential outbreak could be so devastating, equal to the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, that countries may be mass producing and stocking a 'Beta' vaccine in the hope that it would be of some help if 'Bird Flu' breaks out before a fully vetted vaccine is available.

The 1918 pandemic killed 40 million out of 2 billion, proportionately equal to the deaths of 100 million deaths today.

This is basically a sales pitch. I'm not saying it doesn't belong here, because I think we can all deal with it and the more we know the better.

Probably if bird flu takes off there's not much we can do about it in the first few years. Let's hope it doesn't.

I only took tamiflu for a few days when I had the flu a few years ago. Why would you take it for 100 days?
