Comment: LaRue should be commended for her competent legal analysis.

Many more Americans than I ever imagined simply do not consider the courts to be part of the government.

They were not taught this in school ~ neither in public nor in private institutions. So where did they get the idea?

Instead, there's grown up a myth about the "independence" of the courts, and simultaneously an "alienation" from the courts as actually being human institutions.

Take a look at the recent shooting in Atlanta ~ no one seemed to particularly care that the judge was shot and killed at his bench. On the other hand we saw a lot of sympathy expressed for the court reporter and for the lady taken hostage by the killer, and even for the writer of the book she cited, but virtually no one said much about the judge at all.

Even our most knee-jerk Liberal newspaper editorialists ignored the judge. He might as well have een an enemy space alien as far as the "newsies" were concerned.

When we get to the Schindler case, Greer's in-humaneness and cruelty was viewed by the press as being just the sort of thing we have come to expect out of judges, so why the surprise?!

Although the consequences of the separation of the judiciary from the body politic in the mind of the public may seem beneficial to some, I think that in the end it can only end in disaster, and most likely a disaster for the judges themselves.

“People just don’t want government involved in ‘end-of-life’ decisions. It should be left to the family.”

Which it would have been, had the family not disagreed.

Similarly, financial decisions should be left to a husband and wife, but when a divorce is in progress and they cannot agree, the state must inevitably get involved.

Greer exceeded his authority under Florida law.

He's a judge. There are no limits on his authority. /sarc

Next, when Terri’s parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, filed a motion to request permission from Greer to provide Terri with food and water, he denied it. “Ordered and Adjudged that Respondents’ Emergency Expedited Motion for Permission to Provide Theresa Schiavo with Food and Water by Natural Means is DENIED.”

Why was this order necessary?

It wasn't. I think it was the single most egregious decision of the court. Once government gets involved in a family matter, it tends to go much too far.

Why was this order necessary?

So Terri could hurry up and die, of course. This country has gone straight to hell...

I think it was the single most egregious decision of the court.

And enforcement of this particular order was the reason most people were actually arrested, despite the official charges. People were trying to take water or other oral sustenance, and this was actively interdicted by the police officers there.

I certainly hope that all written communications from the court to municipal and county officers are retained; during any proceedings against Judge Greer, these would be interesting to have about. And I believe that under Florida's public records law they should be available.

"How could anyone miss the pervasive presence of government that Michael Schiavo set in motion against Terri?"

Because of the biased reporting of the corrupt "major media."

Anyone know if Greer has been linked to the Hemlock or Dianetics groups?

This entire article is 'yellow journalism'. An exercise in outlandish hyperbole and disinformation.

This entire article is 'yellow journalism'. An exercise in outlandish hyperbole and disinformation.

All one has to do is find one fact in the article contrary to your assertion that the entire article is outlandish hyperbole and disinformation to disprove your proposition. Here is one:
“Ordered and Adjudged that Respondents’ Emergency Expedited Motion for Permission to Provide Theresa Schiavo with Food and Water by Natural Means is DENIED.”

That edict right there tells any right thinking person everything that one needs to know, and where the disinformation really is.

Cordially,
